Ever since Disney acquired LucasFilm and with it the keys to the Star Wars Universe, the House of Mouse has been plugging in cute side characters to help fill supermarket shelves and the shopping carts of adoring fans. First, there was BB-8 in Star Wars Episode VII, and then came the cutest Star Wars character of them all, Baby Yoda aka Grogu who starred in The Mandalorian. Now though, courtesy of the rip-roaring Disney+ success that is Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Hollywood Reporter states that the newest lovable Star Wars droid, L0-LA59, will be available in time for Christmas.

Warning, mild spoilers ahead for those who haven’t seen Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Star Wars would feel incomplete without a Star Wars droid, the lovable machines performing the role of a loyal canine companion in tales a long time ago in a galaxy, far, far away. In Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor’s lonely Jedi Knight comes across a ten-year-old Leia Organa (portrayed by the adorable and supremely talented Vivien Lyra Blair). Organa has Lo-LA59 by her side constantly, the pocket-sized droid which she affectionately refers to as ‘Lola’ offers the young Princess of Alderaan a friend to talk to in confidence and acts as a security blanket. Now, Star Wars fans will soon be able to enjoy the company of Lo-LA59 as well.

Hasbro announced the production of the new Star Wars droid toy at the recent Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim (an event that is headed to London for 2023). The Lo-LA59 figurine will come in two exciting guises. The top-of-the-range spec will be available from December 1st onwards at a cost of approximately $90 and comes with plenty of features to match the high-end price tag. The animatronic toy will be able to perform up to 45 combinations of light, sound, and movement displays, courtesy of a sensor built into the device. Just like in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Lo-LA59 will be able to respond to sounds and tilt her head and move her ears, in summary, the 11 x 3 1/2-inch toy will have all the joyous expressions of movement seen in the real-life Star Wars droid. For those of you eager to save a bit on cash and get your hands on a Lo-LA59 toy a little earlier, a bite-size version without the high-tech sensor will set you back at approximately $39 and is available from September 1st onwards.

As is the case with a Star Wars Celebration, there were a whole host of other announcements to go along with Hasbro’s unveiling of the new Star Wars droid toy. Hasbro unveiled a whole new line-up of toys and figurines for 2022, from an Obi-Wan action figure to one of the mighty Lord Vader as well. The Star Wars Celebration announcements didn’t stop with toys either, there were several Disney+ show details revealed and a trailer for the videogame sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order. However, Obi-Wan Kenobi is stealing the attention of the majority of Star Wars fans at the present moment and the inclusion of young Leia and her trusty droid companion will mean that Lo-LA59 will be filling up Christmas stockings the world over, this festive holiday season.
