See Star Trek: Prodigy Bring Back A Notorious Villain
Star Trek: Prodigy will bring back Ronny Cox as the hardnosed Admiral Edward Jellico.
Star Trek: Prodigy is returning after its midseason break and the trailer revealed a little bit of what fans can expect — including the return of Ronny Cox as the hard-nosed Captain turned Admiral Edward Jellico. Not only is Jellico making an appearance, but it appears the crew of the Protostar is also going to have an encounter with the notorious Borg. On top of all that, they have the real Vice Admiral Janeway in hot pursuit of the ship their ship since it was last captained by her former first officer, Chakotay.
The second half of Star Trek: Prodigy‘s first season looks like it’s setting up plenty of interesting conflicts. Those who tuned into the first season know that the crew of the Protostar already have their own Vice Admiral Janeway onboard, although it’s an AI hologram advisor rather than the real thing. The crew also recently discovered that the U.S.S. Protostar contains a weapon that could be the end of the United Federation of Planets. It remains to be seen how Admiral Edward Jellico will play into all of this, but at least for now, it seems like he’ll be the least of the Protostar crew’s concerns.
For those who haven’t checked it out yet, Star Trek: Prodigy follows a group of young aliens who find an abandoned Starfleet ship called the U.S.S. Protostar that they must get from the Delta Quadrant to the Alpha Quadrant. The animated series stars Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Angus Imrie, Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker, Jimmi Simpson, John Noble, and Kate Mulgrew reprising her role as both the holo-Janeway and the real deal. The series aired its first ten episodes of the first season on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon.
The second half of Star Trek: Prodigy‘s first season will also consist of ten episodes, with a second season already confirmed by Paramount+. Along with Ronny Cox’s Admiral Edward Jellico, Billy Campbell will also be reprising his role as Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Thadiun Okona in the second half of Prodigy‘s first season. Although Star Trek: Prodigy is geared toward younger audiences, bringing in these familiar faces (voices) and further developing the Star Trek Universe is bringing fans of all ages to this animated series.
Star Trek: Prodigy is one of the newest series in Alex Kurtzman’s ever-growing Star Trek Universe that kicked off with 2017’s Star Trek: Discovery. Since then, Star Trek fans have been given a buffet of animated and live-action series to choose from including the aforementioned Discovery and Prodigy along with Short Treks, Picard, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds. Other than Short Treks, all of these series are still currently ongoing with more episodes on the way.
Of course, there is going to be more Star Trek on the way in the near future thanks to the success and warm reception of these series. There are more Star Trek shows planned for the future and (potentially) another film planned that takes place in the Kelvin timeline that began with J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek in 2009. In the meantime, you can tune in to Star Trek: Prodigy when it returns on Thursday, October 27.
