Things are getting real for the cast of Star Trek: Lower Decks as a new image has been released that features two characters from the animated series in human form. The Star Trek crossover event will be featured during the upcoming season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The picture dropped today, which you can see below, and sees Jack Quaid’s Brad Boimler and Tawny Newsome’s Beckett Mariner come to life.

Wearing their familiar uniforms, the space-traveling duo and teammates can be seen smiling while aboard the USS Enterprise while Boimler holds a mysterious ball in his hands. Not only can we expect the Star Trek crossover to see the Lower Decks stars in live action but the cast of Strange New Worlds will be getting an animated makeover while they’re at it. Judging by this shot, it will be an exciting time for fans of the series to see the actors bring their wacky yet professional characters to attention in a non-animated world.

When announcing the Star Trek crossover special at last year’s San Diego Comic Con, Quaid, Newsome, and Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount also dropped the news that legendary franchise actor, Jonathan Frakes would be helming the once-in-a-lifetime episode. For those who may not know, Frakes is the star behind The Next Generation’s Will Riker, a role that he recently reprised on Star Trek: Picard.

As for what the plot will be for the Star Trek crossover, no hints have been dropped beyond the knowledge that the casts will end up either swapping places or on board the Enterprise at the same time. As mentioned above, it’s anyone’s guess as to how Mariner and Boimler will end up on the legendary craft as their different series take place over one hundred of years apart.

Star Trek: Lower Decks is moving towards its fourth season which is set to drop later this year. Along with Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome, the series also features the vocal talents of Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero, Jerry O’Connell, Fred Tatasciore, Dawnn Lewis, and Gillian Vigman. An adult-leaning animated comedy, audiences follow the young officers as they’re tasked with boring jobs while serving on the USS Cerritos – a ship that’s considered Starfleet’s bottom barrel.

With the gang finding themselves backed into tight spots and getting themselves into trouble through their hijinks, there’s more than one way that they could end up in human form for the Star Trek crossover.

Before Season 1 of Strange New Worlds streamed, it was renewed for a second season on Paramount+. Season 2 will premiere June 15. Along with Anson Mount, the series also stars Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck in a story about the crew of the USS Enterprise set a decade before Star Trek: The Original Series.

Although we know the second season will run between June and August, it hasn’t yet been announced when the Star Trek crossover will drop.
