She-Hulk is the next big Marvel series coming to Disney+ and it looks like lead actress Tatiana Maslany is pulling from all kinds of influences to portray the character. In a recent interview with Empire, she revealed that part of her character was influenced by trans musician Sophie, who sadly passed away last year. Talking about how Sophie influenced her, Maslany said “What I love about Sophie’s music is this combo of organic and electrical, industrial-type sounds that felt connected to She-Hulk.”

It sounds like Maslany is doing a deep dive into her influences to make sure she does She-Hulk justice. She also talked about how the comics were a big influence on her take on the character. She-Hulk will feature Maslany as Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner who finds herself with similar powers to turn into a green giant with super strength. Bruce Banner himself (Mark Ruffalo) is along for the ride to help Jennifer learn to control her new powers. Mixed into the superhero action is Jennifer’s life as a lawyer and the legal drama that comes with it. Tim Roth will also be returning as Abomination and Jameela Jamil will be making her MCU debut as Titania. Josh Segarra, Ginger Gonzaga, and Griffin Matthews also star.

While we wait for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law to hit our TV screens, there is plenty of MCU action to check out in the meantime. Ms. Marvel just aired its penultimate episode this week with the finale hitting Disney+ on Wednesday. This series is an important introduction to the character that will likely play a bigger factor in the MCU at large. Kamala Khan is set to appear in The Marvels, teaming up with her idol Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) in 2023. The most recent MCU blockbuster, Thor: Love and Thunder, also opened this weekend. Chris Hemsworth returned as Thor as did Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) wielding Mjolnir. The movie also featured a new contender for one of the best MCU villains with Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.

What’s interesting about Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk is the fact that it seems like she gets all of the Hulk’s powers without losing her personality. This lines up with the comics, as Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk never had quite the same dynamic as Bruce Banner and Hulk. When we finally met Professor Hulk in Avengers: Endgame it was after many movies where the Hulk and Bruce Banner personalities were at odds with each other. It will be interesting to see the reasoning they give behind Jennifer having control from the start of the show.

We won’t have to wait long to see more of the dynamic between She-Hulk and Jennifer Walters. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ on August 17. August will also bring us several shorts based on Guardians of the Galaxy member Groot on Disney+. She-Hulk might be one of the last MCU Disney+ series we get before the year is over. Secret Invasion is supposedly coming out this year, but there’s no release date. Stay tuned for more info on She-Hulk and other Marvel shows.
