See She-Hulk Reveal A Very Private Detail About Captain America

Could this be true?

A clip was released last week from the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law that could potentially reveal something interesting about the first Avenger. Have you ever wondered whether or not Chris Evans‘s Steve Rogers was a virgin? Because clearly Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters has, and she seems to believe the only answer could be a resounding, “yes.”

In the She-Hulk clip, Jen is driving with her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) in the passenger seat, as she relates her theory about Captain America. With her only source being the History Channel, Walters explains that Steve Rogers never had a girlfriend before being turned into a super soldier, didn’t have one during his time in the service, and then was frozen in ice for over 70 years. She goes on to point out that Captain America was “very busy” once he was thawed out, saving the world and at times hiding from the law. This, she concludes, means “Captain America was obviously a virgin,” right before a spaceship shows up, causing her to swerve off the road. You can watch the clip below.

No doubt to many fans, the theory offered by Jen Walters on She-Hulk will become their own personal head-canon. And it isn’t a particularly tough theory to swallow. At the very least it seems likely that Steve Rogers was a virgin until arriving in the 21st century. Since she talks about the big world-ending scenarios Cap kept facing — and since it seems more than likely the general public doesn’t know about him going back in time at the end of Avengers: Endgame — Walters apparently thinks Cap died a virgin which… well, we know that’s wrong. Unless Cap and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) spent a very weird bunch of decades together before the latter’s passing, Walter’s at least half-wrong on that score.

But honestly, even if we forget that the star of She-Hulk doesn’t have all the information available to her, she seems to be operating on a premise with massive faults in it. She assumes Steve Rogers never had sex before he entered the service because, assuming the History Channel is correct, he didn’t have a girlfriend beforehand. She assumes he didn’t have sex after he was rescued from the ocean in the 21st century because he was too busy; presumably too busy to have a committed relationship. Both of these things are based on a pretty ridiculous notion — that you have to be in a committed relationship in order to have sex. Even if we assume Rogers was a virgin going into the service, courtesy of a scene with Natalie Dormer of Game of Thrones fame, we know he was very popular with women during the war. And even before he actually started fighting in the war, when the government used him to sell war bonds, he was going on tour around the country with a big group of young female dancers.

In the 21st century? Well, we can only assume She-Hulk is right about Cap’s virginity if we also assume Steve is a liar. In 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) kisses him in a mall to hide from Brock Rumlow (Frank Grillo). Afterwards, she asks him if it was his first kiss since 1945. He says it wasn’t, adding, “I’m 95. I’m not dead.” Not to mention there are five long years between Thor’s execution of Thanos in Endgame and the rest of the film. Rogers had to do something with those five years beside group therapy.
