Death can do some pretty intense things to the people who experience the loss of a loved one; It can cause depression, anxiety, and a solid clarity about the life you want to lead. That is what happened to Sarah Michelle Gellar in 2014 after the death of her The Crazy Ones co-star, Robin Williams when he took his own life after secretly suffering from Lewy Disease. Eight years later, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress is returning to the horror genre in a new series, Wolf Pack, and she teased her highly anticipated new character with a post on her Instagram.

The post sees Sarah Michelle Gellar silhouetted by the sun in a wooded area wearing a jacket that reads Arson Investigator across the back and a caption that introduces fans to her new character, Kristen Ramsey, and her date of arrival for January 2023. The post has over 35,000 likes, and sports comments that express the kind of excitement Gellar fans haven’t had since Buffy the Vampire Slayer went off the air back in 2003. While the actress has done work since, most famously the Scooby-Doo live-action movies with her future husband, Freddie Prinz Jr., this project gives fans a similar feel to her Buffy role simply because it delves into the supernatural once again.

Wolf Pack is a spin-off of the wildly popular Teen Wolf and follows two teenagers who get wounded in a wildfire, discovering they are werewolves and creating a bond between them. They meet two other children who tell them of when they experienced a similar strange fire 16 years before. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character is an arson specialist who is brought in by authorities to capture the arsonist who started the fire that may have awakened and released a supernatural force. Creator Jeff Davis confessed that while it is common knowledge that Buffy the Vampire Slayer had a lot of influence on Teen Wolf, he has always wanted to get Gellar on the show.

Similar to Cameron Diaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar decided to take a break from acting following the unfortunate suicide of her The Crazy Ones co-star, Robin Williams. Following his untimely death, she said that her eyes were opened to how much time she had spent working, and she decided to step away from acting to focus on being present for her two kids during their formative years. She commented that she had been approached with 2000 of these kinds of series, but Wolf Pack felt different because it was similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer because of the metaphorical aspect of it.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has been one of the most iconic horror actors not just because of Buffy but also her appearance in ScreamThe Grudge, and I Know What You Did Last Summer. She joined the ranks of other Scream Queens like Jamie Lee Curtis and more modern scream queen club members Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt. While it was a long wait for Gellar’s fans, we’re glad that she waited for the right project that spoke to her, and the industry is ready for the return of a turn-of-the-century icon.
