When Creed hit theaters in 2015, the film cemented the star power of a young Michael B Jordan as he costarred with franchise great Sylvester Stallone. Creed II continued his character’s journey into greatness, but it might be the upcoming third installment that will prove Jordan’s legacy as the prizefighter. Creed III is set to open in theaters this Fall, and the actor has now provided a first look at the film with a still showing off Jordan’s impressive physique.

According to Comic Book, Michael B Jordan has revealed the first promo poster for Creed III, while also demonstrating how fit the actor got in order to reprise his famous role. In the image, Jordan can be seen standing next to Stallone’s Rocky, with one arm flexed to prove he has the biceps to fight anyone who steps in the ring. In the poster posted to Twitter by Collider’s Steven Weintraub, it appears that Rocky may be giving advice to the young fighter as he hits a punching bag with a taped hand.

In Creed III, Michael B Jordan will portray the eponymous role of Adonis “Donnie” Creed once again, the son of Rocky’s old frenemy, the late great Apollo Creed. This time around, Jordan is taking on the extra title of director in his directorial debut, as previous Creed film director and frequent collaborator Ryan Coogler stepped to the side to simply executive produce the newest sequel. The film is the ninth in the Rocky franchise and will see some familiar faces in Adonis Creed’s love interest, played by Tessa Thompson, as well as his mother, played by Phylicia Rashad. Jonathan Majors of Lovecraft Country fame will join the cast as Creed’s new opponent.

Even though the promo poster image above shows Sylvester Stallone alongside Michael B Jordan, the Rocky actor will not be featured in this newest sequel. As confirmed by IGN in 2021, Stallone will still executive produce the third installment of his most famous franchise, but for the first time, will not be part of the cast. After eight Rocky films (of which he directed four and served as a writer on all eight of them), it looks like it’s time for Rocky to pass the torch to the newest boxer in the series.

Sylvester Stallone first appeared as the character Rocky Balboa in 1976’s Rocky, directed by John G. Avildsen. The film went on to be nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning Best Picture that year. With an initial box office gross of over $117 million, Rocky spawned sequels that have delighted audiences for close to 50 years. Making Stallone a star, his career took many ups and downs until he agreed to costar and write the first Creed film, bringing Michael B Jordan into the mix to appeal to a new generation of boxing fans. Creed III is said to be in post-production, according to IMDB, and will be released sometime in November 2022.
