You wait years for one Batman and then two come along at once. Matt Reeves’ The Batman has finally hit theatres, after countless delays, and is causing an absolute stir. Now though, as reported by the likes of Slash Film, there is confirmation that acting legend Keanu Reeves is also taking on the role of The Dark Knight. While this might not be the live-action Batman that most fans want, it’s still Reeves as the brooding menace of Gotham’s criminals.

This news comes off the back of Warner Bros releasing the trailer for their upcoming animated movie; DC League of Super-Pets. In the trailer below, you can hear that the one and only Keanu Reeves is indeed the voice behind Batman. This trailer is the first time that this has become common knowledge, as prior to this it was only known that Reeves was involved in the movie. It is a wonderful surprise and undoubtedly combining an iconic character with an equally iconic actor will be a big draw for the movie when it is released in theatres.

The trailer clearly shows that Warner Animation group is taking a family-friendly and comedic take on the DC squad of superheroes. As we can see Kevin Hart’s Bat-Hound and Keanu Reeves version of Batman is comparatively brooding over their traumatic pasts in a hilarious comparison, all the while Danny Elfman’s iconic Batman score plays in the background. The trailer also offers fans a glimpse at Dwayne Johnson’s Krypto the Superdog and John Krasinksi as Superman. The plot of the film follows the super pets as they team up to save the Justice League after they all go missing. It looks set to be a hit with all the great stars signed up. Would Keanu Reeves and John Krasinksi be the perfect live-action Batman and Superman as well?

It will be almost impossible to see Keanu Reeves as Batman in any other capacity than animated, as cinemas are already stuffed with live-action iterations of the world’s greatest detective. Not only do we have Robert Pattinson’s debut of the caped crusader in cinemas now, but there will be two more Batman appearances later this year. This is all down to the upcoming Flash movie. In this film, both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will be reprising their take on Batman. For Keaton, it will mark a return to cinemas as Batman for the first time in thirty years. It seems that 2022 really is the year of Batman. As well as this, reports confirm that Keaton’s Batman has been spotted on the set of the upcoming Batgirl movie.

All these Batman appearances will undoubtedly add fuel to the fire that is the debate of who is the best Batman. A question that may never be answered as everyone has their own favorites. Keanu Reeves may not be pitted into that conversation, but he does have significant competition when it comes to voicing the character in the world of animation. Will Arnett has voiced the character in The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Movie 2. Also, the legendary Kevin Conroy is for many fans the quintessential Batman, voicing the character in The Batman Animated Series and countless Batman video games and animated feature films. Quite the competition for Keanu Reeves to be up against, but surely there aren’t much better equipped for the task. John Wick as Batman. Enough said.
