Ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed co-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios, fans have had an appetite to consume any information that might indicate the direction the pair intends to go with their favorite characters. Luckily, it looks like the wait for some major revelations regarding DC’s upcoming slate of films is almost over. When asked by a user on Twitter how many projects we can expect to be announced in January, Gunn replied, “A few.”

Peter Safran and James Gunn have been leading DC Studios for nearly two months now, and they’ve been hard at work stringing together a 10-year plan for the newly formed DC Universe. So far, that plan has been kept under wraps, however, some details have split out. Three weeks ago, fans were left devastated when news broke that Henry Cavill was axed as Superman, particularly since he popped up in the post-credits scene for Black Adam. Understandably, many fans felt betrayed after being led to believe the Kryptonian hero would finally be making his long-awaited return to DC’s cinematic universe.

Last week, James Gunn confirmed in a Twitter post that he and Peter Safran presented their decade-long plan for the DC Universe to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav. With the duo set to start making some major announcements regarding the studio’s upcoming film slate next month, it sounds like Zalslav was happy with what he saw in the presentation. But will fans be satisfied with the direction the Guardians of the Galaxy director and his partner are planning to go with their favorite superheroes?

In addition to Henry Cavill hanging up his Superman cape, James Gunn also confirmed that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam would be taking a backseat, as there are currently no plans for his version of the character in the DC Universe. The fate of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is also up in the air after Patty Jenkins opted not to return to direct a third film. At this point, it doesn’t look like any of the major players from the Snyderverse will be left standing when Gunn and Safran unveil their 10-year plan next month.

One character that has remained untouched and could possibly have a future in the DC Universe going forward is Blue Beetle. The project was originally developed for HBO Max, but the bigwigs at Warner Bros. Discovery have opted to give the movie a theatrical release instead. After James Gunn took to Twitter to share the forthcoming film’s official poster, fans immediately began to speculate that Blue Beetle could be the first title in the studio’s new cinematic universe.

At this time, there’s no telling what James Gunn and Peter Safran have in store for the DC Universe, but we’re hoping next month’s announcements begin to paint a picture of what’s to come. There are still multiple titles with ties to the Snyderverse still on the way including Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and The Flash. It’ll be interesting to see if any of those movies hold a place in Gunn and Safran’s 10-year plan.
