Star Wars: The Clone Wars Clip Returns The Clone Troopers To Kamino

Very soon Star Wars fans will finally be able to watch the sixth and final season of The Clone Wars in its entirety. Every episode and the animated feature film that launched the series will be available on Netflix Instant this Friday. So even if you’ve never seen a single episode of The Clone Wars, here’s your chance to catch up and experience pre-Disney Lucasfilm. Now Netflix has released a new clip from the upcoming season that focuses on the evolution of the Clone Troopers.

The clip above features Clone Cadet Tup as he returns to the medical bay on Kamino with Clone Troopers Rex and Fives. Tup contracted a mysterious virus that threatens all the Clone Troopers. The first episode of season six, “Unknown,” focuses on the virus, and subsequent episodes explore its origins. Of course, we all know that the Clone Troopers will somehow have died off by the time A New Hope rolls around. The Stormtroopers from the original trilogy are citizen volunteers who sign on as the Empire expands to the Outer Rim. It seems the writers and producers are trying to retcon what George Lucas introduced with Attack of the Clones.

Season six of The Clone Wars will tie up the loose ends from season five, which were left dangling when Disney canceled the animated series after acquiring Lucasfilm in October 2012. The final season of The Clone Wars will explore Ahsoka’s exit from the Jedi Order, the looming showdown with the Sith, and Order 66 leading into Revenge of the Sith. The season will also feature Liam Nesson reprising his role as Qui Gon Jinn from The Phantom Menace. The fallen Jedi Master returns from the dead to reveal to Master Yoda how one can appear as a Force ghost after death.

Over the past few months, Lucasfilm has been making moves to consolidate the Star Wars Expanded Universe, with the Lucasfilm Story Group trimming the fat and deciding what will be counted as canon going forward. It seems that storylines featured in The Clone Wars and Rebels will be part of the official Star Wars mythology.

Much of the production team behind The Clone Wars, including producer Dave Falloni, have moved on to Star Wars: Rebels, which follows the early beginnings of the Rebel Alliance. Rebels takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and is expected to premiere as a feature film on the Disney Channel this summer, before moving to Disney XD for the series beginning this October.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be available for streaming on Netflix Instant on March 7.
