Saturn Award Nominations Snub Attack The Block, Reclassify Doctor Who As Kids Programming
Something has gone horribly wrong with the Satties.
Normally the Saturn Awards are the last refuge of everyone who might like anything outside the extremely narrow view of the Oscars. Usually they’re a reliable way to reward deserving genre work, which is otherwise ignored by the over 65 crowd of the Academy. But not this year.
The 2012 Saturn Award nominees have just been announced and they’ve managed to snub the best science fiction film of last year by ignoring Attack the Block in the Best Sci-Fi Film category. Instead they’ve nominated mediocre, studio produced fare like Limitless.
Things aren’t much better in the television category where Doctor Who has somehow been reclassified as “youth-oriented” programming while the almost universally reviled Terra Nova receives a best on television nomination.
