Plot Details For Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy

The folks over at Marvel Studios have been busy little beavers as of late. Sequels to Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America are all in the works, as well as the follow-up to Joss Whedon’s mammoth hit The Avengers. And let us not forget Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, we’d all love to see that one actually happen. (Hopefully the rights to Daredevil will revert back to Marvel, and we’ll finally see a decent Man Without Fear on the big screen.)

In the midst of this flurry of activity, Marvel is also developing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, with an eye on yet another franchise. Bleeding Cool has a short, but interesting plot description of the story:

About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

Except for the ex-cons part, this sounds suspiciously similar to the plot of DC’s Green Lantern movie. Perhaps with Guardians they saw potential to so something along the same lines, but maybe with more success. It also sounds a little bit like a space western.

The article supposes that this plot means that Vance Astro, AKA Major Victory, will be the hero of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. This seems like a sound theory given the description. Victory’s presence would go also go along with version of the story based on the 2008 reboot of the comic franchise. Victory would be part of a team that will likely include the likes of Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, and Gamora.
