Science fiction has given us plenty of strong female characters over the years. Ripley. Sarah Connor. Zoe from Firefly. While we don’t know much about the role Emily Blunt will play in the upcoming time-travel flick Looper, this new still from the film suggests her character — Sara — knows how to handle herself. Or at least how to handle a shotgun.
If you haven’t already watched the trailer for Looper yet, by all means do so — with or without commentary from director Rian Johnson. He previously worked with Looper star Joseph Gordon-Levitt on a badass high school-noir flick called Brick (which you should also watch, immediately, if you have not already done so). Here’s the latest synopsis for Looper, as well as two more shots of Gordon-Levitt. Looper opens on September 28th.
In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented — but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” — a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) — is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good…until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.
