E3 2012: Star Wars 1313 Promises A Gritty New Take On George Lucas’ Universe

By David Wharton | Published

“Gritty” seems to be the buzzword of the day for the Star Wars franchise. Yesterday we told you about how producer Rick McCallum was making the bold claim that the long-gestating Star Wars TV show was like “Deadwood in space.” Now the top-secret new Star Wars game 1313 has been revealed at E3, and sure enough, the word “gritty” is being thrown around willy-nilly. Not much is known about it yet, except that you play a bounty hunter, and it’s set on one of the seedier levels of the Republic’s city-planet Coruscant (1313 refers to level 1313). Spike TV and GameTrailers.com have posted a video showing a mix of gameplay and an interview with game director Dominic Robillard, so let’s go to the footage:

The game is jokingly being described as “Uncharted in space” on by some commenters, but quite frankly I fail to see how that’s a bad thing. As for the darker, more M-rated direction the franchise seems to be taking, maybe it’s representative of new Lucasfilm co-chair Kathleen Kennedy’s vision for the Star Warsuniverse. Either way, it will definitely be intriguing to see what happens with the franchise in the future. There’s no official release date for Star Wars: 1313 yet, but we’ll keep you posted as more info becomes available.
