Unfortunately for Scarlett Johansson fans, one of the Marvel actress’s upcoming films has been canceled by Netflix. The movie, currently titled Paris Paramount, was first announced in April of 2022 and was set to be directed by Nancy Meyers. According to Deadline, the movie has reportedly been canceled by Netflix over disagreements with the budget.

The movie had a star-studded cast behind it with Scarlett Johansson being joined by superstars like Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, and Michael Fassbender. Netflix was reportedly willing to offer Nancy Meyers $130 million to make the film, but she was looking to get a whopping $150 million for the project. When a compromise could not be met, the streaming platform decided to pull the plug on the movie.

The film, set to star Scarlett Johansson and Owen Wilson, would follow two filmmakers who — after a tumultuous on and off again relationship — would reunite on the set of a new movie. While it still could be picked up by another studio, as of right now the future of the film has come to a screeching halt. The romantic comedy would be both written and directed by Meyers, who is known for her work on films like Private Benjamin and It’s Complicated.

Many Scarlett Johansson fans were anxiously awaiting the film. News of its cancelation from Netflix comes as a bitter disappointment, with many taking to Twitter to air out their frustrations.

Fans of both Scarlett Johansson and Nancy Meyers were quick to come for Netflix over their decision, stating that most of what is currently on the platform is unsatisfactory and they would have loved to see what Paris Paramount had in store.  Others thought the choice made sense, thinking that even the $130 million offered was absurd for a rom-com. Some took to comparing it to movies like 1917, Dune, and Blade Runner 2049.

However, there were a lot more people willing to stick up for the director and noted how excited they would have been to see what she could have done with a large budget. With a star-studded cast with actors like Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, and Michael Fassbender on board, the movie was near sure to be a success with the masterful direction of Nancy Meyers.

The director, known for her stunning kitchen scenes, drummed up a lot of people joking about what kind of set they could have expected from the upcoming Scarlett Johansson film. Unfortunately, one tweet summed it up the best.

Many fans feel that if streaming platforms like Netflix want to have movies by directors like Nancy Meyers and feature actors like Scarlett Johansson, they need to be willing to put up the money. Unfortunately, this time Scarlett Johansson fans will be ultimately paying the price as they will not get to see the actress in the anticipated film unless it is picked up by another studio sometime in the future.
