Saw 10 is currently in the works at Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures. The news was revealed by Bloody Disgusting along with an October 27, 2023 release date. The upcoming sequel will be helmed by Kevin Greutert, who previously directed Saw VI and SawThe Final Chapter. He also edited the first five installments as well as 2017’s Jigsaw. The filmmaker is a favorite among horror enthusiasts, with many praising his efforts within the genre. He’s also worked on features like 2014’s Jessabelle with Sarah Snook and Visions with Isla Fisher in 2015. Having Saw 10 in his hands is good news for the franchise

Created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the Saw franchise dates back to 2004 and consists of nine feature films and additional media. The first eight movies revolve around a serial killer known as John “Jigsaw” Kramer who creates elaborate and deadly scenarios to teach his victims a lesson. Although he was killed in Saw III, the films continued to focus on his posthumous influence and explore his character through flashbacks. The ninth movie, Spiral: From the Book of Saw follows a copycat killer while keeping continuity with the established storyline. Saw 10 is currently untitled.

The plot and character details are currently being kept under wraps. But the studio says the story will capture hearts, and other body parts, with all-new twisted, ingenious traps. There will also be a brand new mystery to solve. Speaking about Saw 10, franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules said they have been listening to what the fans have been asking for and are hard at work planning a movie that Saw aficionados and horror fans will love. “Part of that is giving the reins to Kevin Greutert, director of Saw VI, which is still a fan favorite in the entire series,” the pair told the publication.

More details about Saw 10 will be revealed soon. Meanwhile, the most recent release in the popular franchise failed to capture the hearts of fans. While critics praised Spiral’s attempts at switching up the franchise formula, the film ultimately fell short of giving the series the boost it needed to regain relevance. Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman from a script by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, the movie raked in just over $40 million at the global box office.

Described as a standalone sequel, the film stars Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson. The original franchise creators, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, as well as Rock and series veteran Kevin Greutert serve as executive producers. Interestingly, when reports of Saw 10 surfaced in 2021, Bousman said it was a premature announcement that surprised him. “Just because we made Spiral doesn’t mean Saw ceases to exist,” he said at the time. Speaking to the AU Review, he emphatically added that Spiral is not the ninth film in the franchise as there could easily be a Saw IX that follows Jigsaw.

Additionally, in a 2021 interview with Deadline, Lionsgate Television Chairman Kevin Beggs announced that the studio is in early talks to develop a television series based on Spiral: From the Book of Saw. It’s unclear if the series will be linked to Saw 10.
