After being announced at Walt Disney Investor Day back in December 2020, developments around the Samuel L. Jackson starrer Marvel series Secret Invasion have been kept pretty hush-hush. The show will be based on the Marvel comics of the same name where it was discovered that Skrulls have been invading Earth for years and superheroes have been replaced by shapeshifting imposters hiding in plain sight. Marvel has been taking its time when it comes to making surprising revelations about the series, with the latest being another surprising cast addition– the return of Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill.

Deadline has reported that Cobie Smulders will be reprising her role as Maria Hill, the former Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who has been assisting the Avengers. She last played the role in Spider-Man: Far Away From Home, though it was later revealed that Nick Fury had instructed the Skrulls, Talos, and Soren, to impersonate him and Hill on Earth while the duo appeared to be in deep space. Smulders will be joining Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, who will reprise his role as Talos, in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Along with Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ben Mendelsohn, Secret Invasion is also set to star Kingsley Ben-Adir as the “lead villain” though no further details about his character have been revealed. Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo have also been cast in undisclosed roles. It has been reported that McDonald has been chosen to play an original character who doesn’t appear in the Marvel comics but has a potential future in the upcoming series and films set in MCU.

Samuel L. Jackson

As per Giant Freakin Robot’s exclusive report earlier this year, the Samuel L. Jackson starrer will include more returning Marvel characters. Our trusted sources had revealed that the cast for Secret Invasion also features Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who was last seen acquiring her powers as Spectrum in WandaVision. Our sources have also revealed Chloe Bennet will also be reprising her role as Daisy Johnson a.k.a. Quake even though Agents of SHIELD is no longer considered canon in the Marvel universe.

Apart from reprising his role as Nick Fury from the MCU films, Samuel L. Jackson is also engrossed in a number of different projects. He recently starred in the action thriller The Protege alongside Michael Keaton and Maggie Q. His next projects include the animated film Blazing Samurai, the soy thriller Argylle, as well as Apple TV+ drama The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey where he will play the titular character, a 93-year-old man suffering from dementia.

Secret Invasion is created by Kyle Bradstreet with Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim set to direct its six-episode run. Marvel boss Kevin Feige is also attached to the series as one of the executive producers along with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Bradstreet, and Jonathan Schwartz. Back in October this year, Samuel L. Jackson had revealed on Instagram that the production on the series has officially begun. Though the series has no set release date, it is expected to premiere sometime in 2022.
