Samuel L. Jackson has had a riveting acting career since the 1970s, and 50 years after his journey began, the actor is not slowing down. The Pulp Fiction and Marvel star has a plethora of upcoming movies in the works, and the most recently announced film is a captivating drama about a chef working in a prison to cook up the final feasts for prisoners on death row. Deadline reports that the movie, called Last Meals, will be directed by Andrew Levitas and will also star Boyd Holbrook.

In Last Meals, Samuel L. Jackson will play Walter, a disgraced White House chef who, after a fateful humiliation, gets a job as a prison chef who cooks up the final meals for prisoners before they are executed on death row. After hiding away for decades, Walter is discovered again, but he risks his chance at redemption when he befriends a death row inmate named Reed (Holbrook) who goes on a hunger strike, refusing his last meal, as a last-ditch effort to showcase his innocence.

The script for Last Meals has been gathering attention for the past few years, even before Samuel L. Jackson signed on to play Walter. Despite being delayed by the pandemic, the film is finally moving forward with Andrew Levitas at the helm. Levitas has primarily worked as a New York University professor and is also known for writing and directing Minamata, starring Johnny Depp, and Lullaby, starring Garrett Hedlund.

Justin Piasecki penned the script for the upcoming Samuel L. Jackson feature. Like Levitas, Piasecki is also new to the Hollywood scene with just a few projects under his belt: a short film called Collecting Canada in 2008 and the thriller Relay, starring Lily James, which is currently in production. Piasecki is a Nicholls Fellowship winner and will soon have another project in the works as Amazon recently acquired his script for Stakehorse in a frenzied bidding war.

Last Meals is only one of ten upcoming projects Samuel L. Jackson has in the works. The 74-year-old actor is one of the most prolific artists in Hollywood, with almost 200 finished films in his filmography, a number that is continuously growing.

Two of Samuel L. Jackson’s upcoming projects are within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where the actor will be reprising his role of Nick Fury. Secret Invasion is a limited series that sees Fury and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos attempt to stop the Skrulls, who are in the process of taking over the universe. Secret Invasion will release to Disney+ this June, and in November, fans will get to see Jackson’s Fury again in The Marvels, which also features Marvel stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani.

In addition to being featured in more Marvel content, Samuel L. Jackson will soon be jumping back into the action thriller space in The Kill Room, which is slated to release on June 8. In this thriller, Jackson stars as Gordon, in a film where the art world collides with the dark underworld. Next to Jackson, the film will also star Uma Thurman and Joe Manganiello.
