Who was it that rescued Baby Yoda from Order 66? This question was raised mid-season of The Mandalorian. Now, insider Daniel Richtman has told his Patreon that his sources have revealed it was none other than Sam Jackson’s Mace Windu. Yes, that’s the Jedi believed to be dead at the time of these events. Let’s break down this plot point to see how it could make sense if true.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian gave us more information about Baby Yoda’s past, while also raising more questions. Midway through the season, we learned that Baby Yoda (Grogu) was raised in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. This would be the Jedi Temple where Palpatine executed Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith and the Jedi were massacred. When asked how Baby Yoda survived, he said someone rescued him and hid him away. This raises the big question: who rescued him?

It would need to be someone likely to be at the Jedi Temple at the time. For the story, this is another opportunity to have a character from the prequel trilogy show up. So, who is there?

For this bit of news, you’re going to have to let go of the idea that Mace Windu is dead, which Sam Jackson has wanted you to let go of for a long time. While we saw his character fall from Palpatine’s office before the events at the Jedi temple, Sam Jackson has insisted that many Star Wars characters have lost limbs and survived major falls. Many fans have made the case that Mace Windu is the strongest Jedi we’ve ever seen. Why couldn’t he have survived? In the below Twitter video from 2016, Sam Jackson briefly made his case.

According to an interview Sam Jackson did with Entertainment Weekly around the same time, George Lucas said, “‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.” To be fair, that may have been Lucas simply agreeing with Jackson to get him to stop making his case. It hardly counts as making Mace Windu’s survival canon. But now, if Daniel Richtman’s sources are correct, The Mandalorian could make it so.

So, if Mace Windu did survive, does this mean he’ll be showing up in The Mandalorian season three? It’s plausible. This has been a popular fan theory circulating recently. So while it’s still a stretch, it’s not the most unlikely of rumors. So far, the way the show has handled reveals and characters, it would be safe to assume whoever saved Baby Yoda from the massacre will be showing up in the present, not just in a flashback scene.

Based on the timeline, and Sam Jackon’s current age, it’s less likely we’ll see him play Mace Windu. But considering what we saw in the season two finale, we can’t rule anything out.

Was he the one to hide Baby Yoda away?
