Ryan Seacrest has now agreed that CNN should scale back the on-air alcohol consumption that has been commonplace during its New Year’s Eve Live celebration. According to Seacrest, “I don’t advocate drinking when one is on the air…I don’t know how that started as a tradition, but it’s probably a good idea [to scale back], CNN.” Apparently, Seacrest’s endorsement of getting rid of alcohol for on-air hosts could be tied to an awkward moment that took place last year.

During CNN’s big celebration, co-host Andy Cohen told Anderson Cooper that the band Journey was a bunch of “Ryan Seacrest losers.” Apparently, because Journey was performing with its new lineup, minus original singer Steve Perry, Cohen thought to take a shot at the band and Seacrest at the same time. The awkward on-air moment was likely the catalyst that led to CNN wanting to get rid of the hosts consuming alcohol while they are working.

Andy Cohen might also have just been roasting the competition for a bit of fun, as Ryan Seacrest hosts the bigger New Years’ party in the annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Still, it appears that Seacrest doesn’t want to see himself be made fun of, any more than CNN likely wants that to happen. We are not sure how well anyone else does at work if they are consuming alcohol, but we know that they are not the best combination.

Ryan Seacrest did have a bit of fun in referencing the Andy Cohen diss, and what he would do to mess with the CNN hosts this year. Seacrest added,” I think our show’s a bigger, broader show, and we will not drink until 1:05 in the morning. Although I might send them some Casa Dragones tequila just to tempt them while they’re on the air.”

At least it sounds like Ryan Seacrest has seen the humor in this situation, despite advocating for everyone to keep their wits and remain sober until the ball drops and they are off the air. We understand that plenty of people want to ring in the new year by celebrating but doing so at work was always going to end up being a bad idea. A bit of champagne might be ok as the hosts announce the new year has started, but consuming booze throughout the night is clearly not the right way to go.

Ryan Seacrest and CNN might be battling it out this year as both programs contain some fantastic performers. Seacrest’s show will see Duran Duran, New Edition, Jax, and J-Hope perform. CNN will see Usher, Kevin Hart, Tenacious D, REO Speedwagon, Ava Max, and Pati LaBelle will all be lending their talents to the new year’s party festivities. We are not sure who has the better lineup, but both programs are going to be great to watch.

We would like to see if Ryan Seacrest keeps his word and sends some tequila over to Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, and if they are going to follow their CNN orders and not consume said tequila. We also want to see if Seacrest keeps his word and does not consume alcohol while on the air either. Either way, both programs will be memorable and ring in a brand-new year for the entire world.
