Over the years Ryan Reynolds has truly become a Hollywood icon. From his days filming romantic comedies like Just Friends, his animated stint as Pikachu in Detective Pikachu to his on-point portrayal of Deadpool. However, not all of his movies have been box office successes and there is one movie in particular that the actor has rather strong feelings about. Ryan Reynolds did not hold back when he guest-starred on Monday’s episode of the podcast, Smartless, when he candidly shared just how he really feels about his ultimate box office flop, Green Lantern

During the podcast, as was reported by Yahoo! Entertainment, Ryan Reynolds was talking with his co-stars Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes about how he and his current wife, fellow actor Blake Lively, met. He was quoted saying, “I met Blake on the darkest crease in the anus of the universe called Green Lantern…” He went onto elaborate to the others that when they met initially they were just good friends and that it wasn’t until well over a year later that they connected on a romantic level, ironically while on a double date with individuals other than each other.

Green Lantern, which was released back in 2011, is notoriously known for just how badly the movie performed. Its overall earnings fell short of $220 million, on a budget of $200 million. If you compare that to Deadpool’s $782 million at the box office, it’s rather embarrassing. Ryan Reynolds’ recent statement on his podcast was not the first time the star has poked fun at the giant blemish on his resume. In fact, The Things brought up the scene in Deadpool that cleverly joked about just how terrible Green Lantern was. You can see the 13-second scene below, but be aware that like with many scenes in Deadpool films, it’s violent.

Ryan Reynolds has certainly come a long way and made quite a name for himself since his days portraying the Green Lantern. According to Ryan Reynolds’ IMDB filmography, it was announced that he is set to resume his role as Wade Wilson in Deadpool 3. Another one of Ryan Reynolds’ movie sequels that is currently seeing a lot of success on Hulu and other streaming sites is the animated movie, The Croods: A New Age

Ryan Reynolds has also been busy filming the upcoming Christmas movie Spirited with fellow and actor and comedic icon Will Ferrell. Spirited is said to be a musical based on the timeless classic, A Christmas Story. The movie is being directed by Sean Anders and John Morris and will also feature the likes of Octavia Spencer and Sonita Mani.

Clearly, the lack of success of Green Lantern has not come in the way of Ryan Reynolds’ ability to perpetuate his career or his family, for that matter. In the aforementioned podcast, he went on to speak very fondly of his wife, Blake Lively, and reminisced over the fact that once he made that connection it really was like he was living a real-life fairytale. Ryan Reynolds stressed to Arnett, Bateman, and Hayes that his three children (James, Inez, and Betty) and his marriage to Blake Lively are what’s most important to him and that without their support and roles in his life he could have never become the actor or the person he is today.
