Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie are about to team up for a movie that even a few years ago would have felt rather improbable. They are taking on two of the most iconic toy characters we’ve ever seen in a flick that looks like it is going to actually be able to pull this thing off. And it appears they’re working relationship isn’t going to stop there. Far from it. There’s word that the two could be getting back together for another film in a franchise that’s had more than its share of hits already. Puck News (via Comicbook) has it that Ryan Gosling is in talks to join Margot Robbie in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel movie that was announced earlier this year. It’s easy to picture these two in a stylized heist film the franchise has become known for over the years.

Details are still pretty light on this possible Ocean’s Eleven prequel film (if it even remains a prequel), though it’s worth noting that it’s not tracking to bring back any of the original cast or the one from the all-female spin-off with Sandra Bullock in the lead. This is looking like it will be its own film though having Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling on board could give it all the star power it really needs. In the past, these have been ensemble films and it stands to reason we get that with this one as well. Jay Roach is on to direct and he’s worked with Margot Robbie before on Bombshell.

Again, details are light on how Margot Robbie and presumably Ryan Gosling would work into the Ocean’s franchise if this movie were looking to connect to the previous iterations. Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen make up the original trilogy of films with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon leading a stellar cast in three epic heists. Ocean’s 8 followed in 2018 but failed to live up to the promise established by the original reboot of the franchise. This reset with new stars will hopefully put a new spin, and if it’s a prequel could look back at some of the origins around how the folks ended up meeting and working together in their younger years.

Before any of this happens though, we are going to get Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Barbie which is set to hit theaters next summer on July 21st. They will star as Barbie and Ken respectively in a live-action movie about the iconic doll brand. It looks sleek and bright in all the right ways and likely will be a tongue-in-cheek approach to these characters. There are a number of folks in the flick playing alternate versions of the two characters and Will Ferrell is on as the villain, the CEO of Mattel.

If Ryan Gosling were to board this unnamed Ocean’s movie then we could see some more casting dominoes fall in short order. Having two major stars in for a big flick usually means the rest rounds out rather quickly.
