Robert De Niro is set to star in a brand new limited series called Zero Day. Developed for Netflix, the project hails from Narcos showrunner Eric Newman and President of NBC News, Noah Oppenheim. While plot details are being kept under wraps, the story is said to be a political thriller that sees the Academy Award-winning actor play a former U.S President.

Newman and Oppenheim will write the script from a story they created with Michael Schmidt. As part of his overall deal at the streamer, the Narcos showrunner also handles producing duties for The Watcher, True Story as well as the upcoming Painkiller and Griselda.

If Zero Day is given the green light, it will mark the first regular series role for Robert De Niro. The 79-year-old actor will also appear in About My Father, directed by Laura Terruso from a screenplay by Sebastian Maniscalco and Austen Earl. But by the end of the holiday weekend, they ultimately unite.

Robert De Niro will also star as Sheriff Mike Church in Savage Salvation.
