Resident Evil Reboot Movie

In 2016 we got Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but despite the title it wasn’t the end of the franchise. There’s a Netflix series on the way, and there’s a movie reboot coming too.

Netflix’s Resident Evil Series

It was nearly a year ago that news first broke revealing Netflix is working on a television version of the popular Resident Evil franchise. So far the Resident Evil series has stretched across multiple movies and video games, but it’s never been a series.

The Resident Evil series focuses on a future where an evil company called the Umbrella Corporation causes a viral outbreak which turns people into zombies. The movies have focused primarily on a character named Alice (played by Milla Jovovich) but word now is that the the Netflix series will go in a different direction.

The Plot Of Netflix’ Resident Evil Reboot Series

Netflix just delivered this official plot synopsis for their new Resident Evil reboot series…

Splash Report confirms that Netflix’s Resident Evil series will focus on the daughters of Albert Wesker. Wesker has long been one of the central recurring antagonists throughout the series. Their report says the show, set in 2022, follows half-sisters Jade and Billie Wesker. Their family relocates to a town called “Raccoon 2” which is home to the headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation. There in the suspiciously too-perfect town, the sisters start to uncover a conspiracy involving their father’s work.

Rumors has it that the Resident Evil show will also feature flash-forwards to the year 2036 when the world has gone post-apocalyptic and zombies reign supreme. There we’ll follow an older version of Jade as she tries to fight off zombies and save the three-million humans still left alive.

The People Making The Netflix Series

Netflix has officially announced that Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) and Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead, The Journey Is the Destination) will direct the first two episodes of the Resident Evil reboot series.

Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time. I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.

The Resident Evil Movie Reboot

The New Movie’s Plot

Johannes Roberts is writing the movie. The only official details leaked up til now are that it’s a reboot. But now word is that it’s not the kind of reboot that just rehashes what previous movies have done, it’s going in a different direction.

Where the last movie series focused on Alice as played by Milla Jovovich, these sources say the star of the reboot will be Claire Redfield. The Claire Redfield character is big in the games and she was in the Milla Jovovich series of movies. There she was played by Ali Larter. But she was never really the focus.

For the Resident Evil reboot, Claire will have grown up with her brother Chris in a Raccoon City orphanage. There children go missing under mysterious circumstances. When they grow up, Chris becomes a cop and things start to go sideways. Claire tries to convince him to leave the city, right when the zombie outbreak happens.

Casting Resident Evil’s Reboot Movie

Jill Valentine

Word is that 30-year-old Hannah John-Kamen has been officially offered the role of Jill Valentine. Hannah has been an up and coming action star for awhile now. You probably know her best from her supporting appearance in Ant Man and The Wasp. However she was also the lead in the action sci-fi series Killjoys, had a two-episode stint on Game of Thrones, and even had two episodes on Black Mirror.

Claire Redfield

Meanwhile reports say 28-year-old Kaya Scodelario has been offered the role of Claire Redfield. Kaya is probably best known for her work on the TV series Skins. More recently she was in the Alexandre Aja directed horror movie Crawl and she was in the Maze Runner movies which no one seemed to notice.

Claire Redfield was previously played, most notably, by Ali Larter in the original Resident Evil movie franchise. Jill Valentine was previously played by Sienna Guillory, though most fans would say that Jill never really got a fair shake in the Resident Evil movies. Looks like that’s about to change.

We don’t have an official casting for the part of Wesker yet, but actor Theo James has been rumored for some time.
