After the underwhelming box-office performance of 2018’s The Predator, fans will be eager to know that an official title and new plot details have emerged regarding the franchise’s next big-screen endeavor. Collider revealed that the new movie will officially be called Skull and will detail the Predator’s origin story and explain just how it ended up journeying to planet earth.

The new Predator movie, Skull was produced by John Davis and John Fox and directed by relative new-comer, Dan Trachtenberg who impressed everyone with his work on 10 Cloverfield Lane. Both Davis and Fox recently sat down to talk with Collider a little more about what fans can expect to see with this new Predator film and even confirmed that the new addition to the franchise will feature a female heroine. Amber Midthunder was cast to fill the big-boots originally worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger on the original Predator nearly 35-years-ago.

Fans who have been nostalgic and longing for Predator to return to its Arnold Schwarzenegger roots might also get what they have been hoping for. According to Movie Web, Davis and Fox were very confident when they compared the tone of this new Predator to that of the original.

“It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force…”

John Davis

Beyond Davis’ revelation that this Predator movie is going to indeed recapture what made the original just as much of a human story as it was an action-thriller flick, he was still very tight-lipped about any specific details about the plot, even though the movie is set to release next year and is just about done filming. However, the producers didn’t hesitate to compare this Predator movie to Leonardo DiCaprio’s highly-regarded Oscar-winning movie The Revenant. At its core The Revenant is a movie about finding a way to hold on even when faced with odds that are impossibly stacked against you and then ultimately, coming through the victor at the end. This comparison could very well suggest we will see our female hero encounter similar odds upon coming face-face with the newly arrived Predator

At this time, no concrete details about the intricacies of the plotline have been revealed. However, speculation has been happening by various outlets, some of it based on important details. For example, Screen Rant speculated that because one of the producers mentioned that it takes place very early in human history, that could mean it could be set in a time even before the modern pistol was created, well before explorers from over-seas began encroaching on Native American Land. Additionally, another interesting observation is that the movie’s lead actress, Amber Midthunder is of Native American heritage. This could be coincidence or point to something related to the time period for the new film.

Those who are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Predator movie Skull will have to wait until next year to view the new addition to the franchise. In the meantime, though, fans can take a walk down memory lane and have an in-depth look at actor Jean-Claude Van Damme don the original predator suit way back in 1987.
