Social media and fan sites erupted when the news dropped that Hugh Jackman would be joining Ryan Reynolds as Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3. With the film already in pre-production mode, additional casting announcements are slowly pouring in for the movie that is on track to be released in theaters in 2024. Now, Murphy’s Multiverse reports that actor Owen Wilson is rumored to be joining the blockbuster third installment of the Deadpool franchise as his character, TVA Agent Mobius.

Owen Wilson first portrayed TVA Agent Mobius in the Disney+ series, Loki, and is supposed to reprise the role in the television show’s upcoming second season which will be released on the streamer next year. Cementing his place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wilson appears to be leaping into the film world by playing the same character in Deadpool 3. Murphy’s Multiverse is also noting that Wilson’s role in Deadpool 3 will be substantial, unlike some other cameos that have made their way into the Multiverse in recent films of the franchise like Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

TVA Agent Mobius is a fictional character in Marvel Comics that represents the bureaucratic middle management staple of the Time Variance Authority, a timekeeping organization that seems to be in charge of helping to control the multiverse. Different iterations of the character exist in a variety of universes within the comic books, and Owen Wilson plays one in Loki opposite star Tom Hiddleston. The character and the TVA are led by He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) in the series, which opens up many doors to stories that will play out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Five, including the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Soon to be directed by Shawn Levy of The Adam Project fame, Deadpool 3 has so far only officially cast Hugh Jackman to join the Ryan Reynolds franchise project, but Owen Wilson’s inclusion in the Phase Six film might be the first of many casting announcements made in the next few weeks. There is a strong possibility based on rumors from Reynolds and Jackman that Deadpool 3 might be the bridge movie between X-Men and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, inviting the idea that mutants and superheroes could finally be together in a well-crafted film. Wolverine is most likely the best-known mutant of the X-Men series of films, and Jackman has portrayed the character in several iterations since 2000.

Owen Wilson has had a bit of a career boost since costarring with Tom Hiddleston on Loki in 2021, as the veteran actor also hosted Saturday Night Live in the same year. In 2022, Wilson starred opposite singer Jennifer Lopez in the romantic comedy Marry Me, which was released theatrically and via streaming on Peacock. The actor closed out the year by headlining a different kind of superhero movie called Secret Headquarters for Paramount+, playing a Tony Stark-Esque superhero whose secret headquarters is accidentally discovered by his son, a gang of villains, as well as his son’s friends.
