These days, before a show or movie even hits the big or small screen, we are already starting to think about the follow-up, second season, or sequel. That’s just the nature of the business, with the sequel hype train leaving the station well before the first iteration even gets up in front of us. Such is the case with Oscar Isaac and Moon Knight with fans already wanting to know if this was going to be an ongoing story or a one-and-done when it ultimately hits Disney+. Well, Oscar Isaac set the record straight, maybe by accident, when he commented recently about the future prospects for the series

While sitting down with Variety (via ComicBook.com) Oscar Isaac discussed what it meant to play Moon Knight and what fans could expect from the show. But during the discussion, Isaac let on, maybe accidentally, that this was just going to be a limited series. Because of that label and a few other things he said, there doesn’t seem to be any plans for a Moon Knight season 2, or at least nothing in the works at all for the immediate future.

Oscar Isaac said, “…we’re a limited series. There was a lot of room to try stuff because there wasn’t the pressure that we got to make sure we make however many hundreds of millions of dollars on the opening weekend.” In this, he was talking with Jared Leto about the nature of the differences between big and small screen productions. But it did point to the thought that Moon Knight won’t be getting a second stand-alone story.

Now, because of the way the Marvel Cinematic Universe is structured, just because there isn’t going to be a Moon Knight season 2 (or at least not soon), doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing the Oscar Isaac character quite a bit over the years. The MCU is best out there for bringing their wealth of characters into all kinds of productions meaning we are likely going to see Moon Knight showing up in other series or movies along the way. That’s what the MCU has done best over the years, weaving different stories and threads together in masterful ways. It’s surely the plan with this character as well.

Moon Knight will star Oscar Isaac as the titular character/ Marc Spector, a trained mercenary who has recently been embued with the power of Egyptian moon god Khonshu. It appears from the early trailers that there is something like an onboarding process to control this new persona and we see that Isaac as Spector is struggling early on. He’s sleep-deprived and possibly doesn’t even know his true self because of a dissociative identity disorder that has him totally out of whack. It has the look of a dark and harrowing story that could really explode when Isaac’s Spector comes to grips with the idea that he is actually a very powerful vigilante.

And in Moon Knight, Oscar Isaac will be up against Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, a cult leader and just general creep who could end up being the character the Sun God. He seems to understand Spector’s struggle, though would appear to want to turn the dude to the dark side. It’s setting up to be a cool story when it releases on Disney+ in March. But don’t expect a Moon Knight season 2.
