If there is anything that actor Norman Reedus knows how to play onscreen, it is an outlaw looking for justice in the most insane ways possible. Having provided his own ruthless brand of comeuppance alongside Sean Patrick Flanery in The Boondock Saints, Reedus took his brand of southern grit to television by appearing as Daryl Dixon on the long running AMC Networks series The Walking Dead, currently in its 11th and final season on cable television. Now, it appears that Norman Reedus will star in an outlaw biker movie entitled The Bikeriders for director Jeff Nichols.

According to a report by Deadline, Norman Reedus has signed on to join an ensemble group of actors to portray a currently unnamed character in the new film, The Bikeriders, which is based on the 1967 book of the same name by Danny Lyon. Reedus joins an impressive cast that includes Elvis star Austin Butler, Killing Eve staple Jodie Comer, British actor and The Dark Knight Rises alum Tom Hardy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s Michael Shannon, A Walk Among the Tombstones performer Boyd Holbrook, and Damon Herriman of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood fame. The new movie will be adapted for the screen and directed by Jeff Nichols, a frequent collaborator of Michael Shannon’s on hit projects like Take Shelter, Midnight Special, and Mud, which will be the director’s first movie in over six years.

Norman Reedus and the growing team of The Bikeriders will tell the story of a fictional Midwestern town whose motorcycle club transitions over the course of a decade from being a place where local outsiders can assemble to more of an evil and sometimes threatening group of bandits. Reedus is used to playing similar characters on television in recent years, as the aforementioned Daryl Dixon has become quite the brand of characters that the actor has been associated with lately. AMC also asked Reedus to appear on his own show for the network called Ride With Norman Reedus which resembled that of Easy Rider starring Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson, and Dennis Hopper, where the Florida native took five seasons to explore motorcycles and biker culture while driving on the open road in the United States.

Since then, Norman Reedus has enjoyed success playing Daryl Dixon on The Walking Dead, which will end its run after more than 170 episodes and 11 season in just a few weeks. An untitled spin-off of the hit series is currently in the works that will see Reedus’ Daryl as the lead character alongside Melissa McBride’s character of Carol, but there is no word currently on when this show will materialize and who the other cast members could possibly be. Until that time, fans of Reedus will have to await more news regarding the ensemble drama The Bikeriders that will unfold under the helm of Jeff Nichols, which is currently listed as in pre-production, as well as the third installment in The Boondock Saints franchise that has also rumored to be in pre-production.
