Nicolas Cage is truly one of the most beloved actors in all of cinema. While fans patiently wait for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Cage has been on a promotional tour for the film at the festival known as SXSW (South by Southwest). Naturally, he has been asked plenty of questions regarding the film and all manner of other subject matter. One such question posed to the actor was which role he would like to play next considering all the random roles he has been given as of late. Without missing a beat, Cage claimed that he would love to play Egghead, who is an obscure villain from the 1960s Batman. This villain was one of the first villains to deduce that Bruce Wayne is Batman. You can see the clip of this interview below:

The role of Egghead was specifically made for horror icon, Vincent Price. If there was anyone who could bring life back to such a dastardly villain, it would be Nicolas Cage. The fact that he brought up such an obscure villain from the Batman mythos means this should happen. Egghead looks just as his name dictates, a man with a large egg-like head, who is vastly intelligent. While Matt Reeves’s film, The Batman, currently has The Riddler as its intelligent nightmare, adding Egghead to the mix would be that much more sinister. Batman having to deal with two superior minds would be fantastic. Cage also states that he can make Egghead “absolutely terrifying” and he has a “concept” already.

Nicolas Cage has certainly played plenty of odd roles as of late. From a truffle farmer in the movie Pig to The Janitor in Willy’s Wonderland, there are few actors right now who make such oddball films look so good. The above-mentioned film called, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, has even cast the man to play himself. It’s fair to say that it is one of those most anticipated Cage performances to date. Adding an obscure villain like Egghead would just be another notch on the resume of one of Hollywood’s most prolific and auteur actors. While it has been some time since Cage has done a superhero film, as he played Ghost Rider in the earlier iterations of Marvel films, he would be a very welcomed villain.

The Batman is currently breaking records and is being talked about as the best Batman film to come out since The Dark Knight. Now director Matt Reeves must add to his acceptance with the inevitable sequel. Adding Nicolas Cage as Egghead would certainly be the type of risky move that might just pay dividends. At the very least, he could play any number of the Rogue’s Gallery. Cage as Mister Freeze? That would be a fantastic casting choice. Think about it. Whatever happens, the above interview should be all Warner Bros needs to at least have a conversation with the man. He has clearly thought a lot about what would need to go into playing an obscure villain that was created for Vincent Price.
