See Nicolas Cage Out For Revenge In Video For His New Western Movie
Nicolas Cage is on a quest for revenge for the murder of his wife in the first look at The Old Way.
Revenge is a dish best served by cold-blooded gunslinger Colton Briggs in Nicolas Cage’s new movie The Old Way. Lionsgate released the trailer for the movie, which is due in theaters on January 6, 2023, and co-stars Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Noah Le Gros, Clint Howard, Abraham Benrubi, and Nick Searcy. The movie was directed by Brett Donowho from a script penned by Carl W. Lucas.
Nicolas Cage plays Colton Briggs in The Old Way, a veteran gunslinger with a reputation for ruthlessness who fell in love and settled down with his wife Ruth. They had a daughter named Brooke, and the trailer implies that Ruth died while Brooke was growing up. It appears Colton has hung up his guns for good, even if his reputation didn’t retire along with him.
That past comes back to haunt him when the son of one of his victims comes back to take revenge, intending to honor Briggs’ reputation by extending him the same mercy that the retired gunslinger showed his father. Nicolas Cage’s character must return to his old ways in order to keep himself and his daughter alive and he does this by training his daughter in his previous profession. The trailer shows her as his partner in a confrontation with a gang of cowboys and leaves viewers wondering if Brooke will embrace her father’s methods.
The trailer is full of action-packed gunslinging with the beautiful Montana landscape as its background. Between an Old West village, the Briggs family home, and the untapped wilderness around them, the setting is as striking as Colton is deadly. Nicolas Cage’s The Old Way is being distributed by Saban Films, which bought the rights to do so in January 2022.
Notably, and perhaps tragically, Nicolas Cage walked off the set of The Old Way when a firearm unexpectedly went off during filming. If this sounds familiar it is because the armorer for the movie was Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who would later go on to be involved in the incident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Alec Baldwin movie Rust. Perhaps if the incident with Nicolas Cage had been paid more attention to, the tragic Rust shooting could have been prevented.
The actor is the nephew of acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola, a fact he wanted people to forget as he didn’t want to be seen as benefitting from his famous relative. He first appeared in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but his part fell to the editing room floor, much to his disappointment. However, he rebounded and made his own mark in early roles like Valley Girl and Peggy Sue Got Married, and eventually built a reputation as an action star with the likes of The Rock and Con Air.
Nicolas Cage has appeared in 105 roles, with The Old Way and another six credits being released or in production between now and 2024. Recent years have seen him starring or appearing in several movies a year, from the hilarious and gory Willy’s Wonderland to the supernatural action flick Jui Jitsu. The actor is known for his eclectic personality and a wide array of roles, and this new movie looks to be one of his best offerings.
