Nicolas Cage is taking on a role he was destined to play: and no, strangely I’m not talking about his role as Nicolas Cage in last year’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent or even Dracula which is coming soon as well. According to Deadline, the oftentimes bizarre and creepy actor is playing a serial killer in the upcoming horror/thriller film Longlegs, which is also being co-produced by his production company, Saturn Films.

Blair Underwood and Alicia Witt have just joined the cast of Longlegs, which, in addition to Nicolas Cage, includes Maika Monroe. Monroe will be playing a gifted but untested FBI agent named Lee Harker, who is assigned an unsolved case involving an as-yet-unnamed serial killer. The latter has managed to elude capture for some time. The case gets even more intense as evidence of the occult is discovered, as well as a connection between Harker and the killer himself.

Longlegs was announced in November 2022, with the reveal that Nicolas Cage would be both starring in and producing the film, which was written by Oz Perkins. Principal photography began in Vancouver, British Colombia in January, and wrapped just over a month later. The film is currently in production, with more details expected in the coming months.

Anyone who has ever seen Nicolas Cage in iconic roles like Face/Off can tell you that the actor is perfect for the role of a serial killer (like, seriously: have you seen his crazy eyes in that movie?). He has an aura about him that screams “unhinged” and “unpredictable,” and he has embraced this over the years and made it his bread and butter.

Nicolas Cage often plays kooky or creepy characters, and audiences eat it up. Last year, for instance, he starred as a version of himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which he plays world-weary and broke actor Nicolas “Nick” Cage, who is hired to attend a party thrown by a sketchy character (played by The Last of Us and The Mandalorian’s fan-favorite father figure Pedro Pascal). He then gets roped into an investigation by the CIA, who wants him to help them catch his host, believing he is an arms dealer.

This movie was released in April 2022 but has recently come back into the zeitgeist thanks to a meme-worthy moment in which Nicolas Cage is riding in a car with a rather cheesy-looking Pedro Pascal.

According to Variety, the actor has also been back in the spotlight thanks to a recent interview he did about the MCU. Nicolas Cage loves Marvel comics and considers Stan Lee to be his “surrealistic father,” to the extent that he got his pseudonym Nicolas Cage from the Marvel character of Luke Cage. But, he doesn’t feel the need to star in an MCU movie because, in his words: “I don’t need to be in the MCU. I’m Nic Cage.”

That’s the kind of don’t-care attitude that makes Nicolas Cage the perfect choice to play an elusive serial killer in Longlegs. He is a veteran actor, he is intriguingly eccentric, and he is – let’s just be honest – weird as heck. With his help, this movie will surely be terrifying (Really. I mean it. Just look at his crazy eyes in Face/Off)
