Nicolas Cage does has a history with superhero films, but so far, none of them have quite… worked. His Ghost Rider films weren’t very well-received, and his role in a Tim Burton Superman film never even got off the ground. His only truly successful superhero films were as Spider-Man Noir in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and as Big Daddy in Kick-Ass. However, Instagram artist Bosslogic has reimagined him in a role that seems more well-aligned with his particular acting style, showing what the National Treasure actor would look like as the iconic Batman villain, The Joker.

BossLogic’s drawing of Nicolas Cage has gained significant attention on the Meta-owned social media platform, garnering tens of thousands of likes in just two days. The Instagram artist has started to gain a reputation for creating celebrity-themed concept art. He has previously shared images showing former Superman actor Henry Cavill as both Sentry and Bizarro. More humorously, he has imagined Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman as Marvel’s Modok.

Unfortunately for fans who want to see an unhinged Nicolas Cage going up against whoever the next Batman would be, BossLogic’s imaginings have so far never become reality. Otherwise, we’d be seeing Penn Badgley announced as Reed Richards or Aubrey Plaza as Mephisto. Though perhaps his lack of supernatural manifestation powers are for the — otherwise we’d see The Office actor Rainn Wilson replacing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Though Nicolas Cage most likely will not make an appearance as Batman’s arch-nemesis, it’s not hard to imagine him in the role. While Cage has appeared in a wide range of roles throughout his 40+ years as a Hollywood actor, he has a knack for unhinged performances that would fit right in with The Joker’s insane characterization. His appearance in films like DeadfallMandy, and Vampire’s Kiss shows a level of crazy that he would likely channel if asked to fill the role.

For those who are disappointed that Nicolas Cage won’t be facing off against the Caped Crusader, you’ll just have to be thankful for the fact that might be returning to some other iconic roles. Inside sources have told us that Cage will appear in season 2 of National Treasure: Edge of History, and he might even reprise his role in Ghost Rider in the next phase of Marvel films. Cage has also spoken about a possible sequel to Face/Off, and has spoken about wanting to make a sequel to Snake Eyes as well. Unfortunately, for every possible Nicolas Cage comeback, there’s another bit of disappointing news. Cage has said he likely will not be returning to his role of Spider-Man Noir.

Ever the prolific actor, Nicolas Cage has plenty more films coming down the pipeline besides the rumored sequels. Along with this year’s western The Old Way, Cage will appear as Dracula in the upcoming Renfield film and is also set to appear in Dream ScenarioSand and StonesLonglegsThe Retirement Plan, and Sympathy for the Devil. You can expect to see him in far more as-yet-announced films in the coming years as well.
