James Gunn and Peter Safran held a press event on Tuesday during which they revealed Chapter 1 of the DC Universe. On a slide with a timeline that includes the logos for Superman: Legacy, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Lantern, and Swamp Thing, he outlined the first 10 projects that will flesh out the storyline. Cosmicbook shared that an image of the slide from the event was leaked online, displaying these logos to fans for the first time.

Chapter One of the DCU will be called Gods and Monsters and will feature five movies and five television projects. Superman: Legacy will be the first of the five films, and will follow the superhero as he balances his alien heritage with being Clark Kent here on Earth. James Gunn wrote the script, and it is due for a July 2025 release.

The logo for the Superman movie features the title of the movie in the classic Superman font, with yellow letters flying toward viewers, leaving a red trail (a cape?) behind them. It is a reflection of the font that has been used to represent Superman since his first appearance in Action Comics #1 in 1938, hinting at respect for the source material that even survives to this day. The lettering style is almost as iconic as the “S” that Superman wears on his chest.

While Superman is often viewed as the center of the DC Universe, as well as the leader of the Justice League, there are other superheroes that we can expect to see in DCU’s Chapter One. The Brave and the Bold is said to follow Batman and Robin, who is Bruce and Damian Wayne in this adaptation of a storyline from the long-running comic series. Supergirl and Swamp Thing will also be getting their own movies, as well as the superhero team The Authority, a group of heroes left over from the Justice League and Stormwatch.

The DCU television offerings will presumably be released on HBO Max and are no less impressive than Superman and his friends in the movies. Creature Commandos will be a seven-episode series that follows Amanda Waller as she gathers a monstrous black ops team, and the follow-up, Waller, will star Viola Davis as she works with Team Peacemaker. Booster Gold is about another future Justice League member who uses future technology to perform feats in modern day.

Paradise Lost will tell the story of Themyscira, where Wonder Woman is from.

Also coming to the small screen will be Lanterns, about two intergalactic peacekeepers from the Green Lantern continuity as they work together to solve a dark mystery, and Paradise Lost will document the rise of Themyscira, home of Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern also join Superman and Batman in the Justice League, so these releases seem to be setting up the origin stories of some of DCU’s most famous heroes before they banded together.

The leak of these logos is exciting for fans, because it lends an air of inevitability to the release of these shows and movies, ending the suspense that began when James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as co-heads of DC Studios. While there have been numerous changes, including the news that Henry Cavill will no longer be playing Superman, the fact that they have something to display to the press shows that progress is being made. Chapter One: Gods and Monsters is ready to set the stage for the DCU, and fans are excited to see what they come up with.
