One Of The Greatest Football Players Of All Time Is Getting A Netflix Series
It's about time!
A Netflix doc has been ordered for one of the greatest football players of all time. No, not Tom Brady or Bo Jackson, we’re talking about the other football, aka soccer. David Beckham will be getting the doc treatment, with the multi-part series set to look at the last 40 years of Beckham’s life and career.
The David Beckham documentary series will be directed by Fisher Stevens, known for We Go Green. Stevens is also on to executive produce, with John Battsek attached to produce. The David Beckham documentary will reportedly feature never-before-scene archive footage and interviews with friends, family, and former teammates. The doc will portray Beckham’s beginnings as a child in East London, his career as one of the most famous and successful footballers of all time, and his life now. Beckham’s own Studio 99 is also on board to produce the doc.
While David Beckham’s Studio 99 has produced quite a few commercials for his various endorsements, they’re still relatively new to the film and series side of entertainment. However, they have various projects in the works, including the Beckham documentary. According to their website, they have a documentary about Ronnie O’Sullivan, the 2022 World Snooker Champion, an untitled Adidas/Puma documentary, and a doc called Save Our Squad that features Beckham returning to his East London roots to mentor a grassroots youth club.
David Beckham retired from football for good in 2013, but he certainly made his impact before then. During his tenure as a footballer, he became recognized as one of the best midfielders of his time. He managed to win titles in four different countries and played for some of the greatest and most well-known football clubs. His career started in 1992 when he played for Manchester United at the age of 17. During his time with Man U, he won six Premier League titles, two FA clubs, and the UEFA Champion’s League. Beckham would also play seasons with Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. American soccer fans will remember his notable tenure playing for the MLS team LA Galaxy. Beckham’s presence in the MLS helped to bring some more prestige and notice to the league.
One of David Beckham’s most notable achievements in recent years was when he was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2021. While David Beckham’s sports career is over, the former athlete still has plenty of business ventures and is likely enjoying his post-retirement life with his wife Victoria Beckham, and their four children. Clearly, Beckham is also still attached to his previous career as a footballer too, as his Studio 99 is producing quite a few docs around the sport. Beckham also exercised his option to buy an MLS expansion team in 2014, with Inter Miami CF. Inter Miami CF would make its debut in 2020. Beckham is also a noted philanthropist, acting as a UNICEF ambassador for many years. All of this will likely be covered in his upcoming doc, which has not yet announced a release date.
