After the major success of Rian Johnson’s sequel to Knives Out, it was no mystery that fans were eagerly waiting for Netflix to release the third film in the franchise. However, with no news of when Knives Out 3 might start production and with reports of the franchise’s director not sure where to go with the series, many started to worry that Netflix might scrap the plan for the third film. Luckily, Gamespot has put these rumors to rest, as Johnson is reportedly working hard on creating the script for the third film in the Netflix murder mystery series.

Just like Knives Out and Glass Onion, Knives Out 3 will follow Detective Benoit Blanc, the world’s greatest detective, portrayed by Daniel Craig. Johnson, who has headed the original two Netflix films, announced that he was now working on Knives Out 3 and that it is currently the most exciting project to him. The director mentioned that he had to work on Knives Out 3 because he simply can’t imagine doing anything else until it is completed.

While this is great news for Knives Out fans, it’s bad news for those who were looking forward to Johnson trying his hand at a Star Wars film again. While The Last Jedi director is still in talks with Lucasfilms president Kathleen Kennedy about heading a new three-part Star Wars project, the director’s focus on Netflix’s Knives Out 3 pushes any opportunity for a Star Wars feature further into the future.

Still, despite Johnson’s insistence on only keeping one project on his mind at a time, the director is about to release a new project unrelated to Netflix and Knives Out 3. Following his penchant for writing mysteries, Johnson’s latest is a 10-part series that will be available on NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, Peacock. Poker Face follows a woman named Charlie, who has the remarkable ability to tell if someone is lying to her, a feature that helps the heroine out a great deal as she travels the country and solves crimes.

Created by Johnson, the case-of-the-week show stars Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll) as the leading lady, as well as Megan Suri, Colton Ryan, and Brandon Michael Hall. The series premieres January 26, which will then leave Johnson’s calendar completely open to focus on producing Knives Out 3 and cementing the threequel’s release on Netflix.

At this time, no details have been released as to what the plot for Knives Out 3 might be. All the information the director has given about the next in the Netflix trilogy is that he has many thoughts that are still being pulled into focus, but at the very least, the mystery writer knows it will be very different from the first two in the series.

While Knives Out was a major success during its release in November 2019 (coming in second for Thanksgiving weekend behind Disney’s Frozen II), Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery broke records for Netflix. The sequel became the streaming platform’s most-watched movie during the first 10 days of its release and received high critical praise. The murder-mystery comedy series featuring the southern gentleman, Detective Blanc, delighted audiences with the quirky dialogue and unexpected twists, making fans wonder what will be in store when Knives Out 3 is finally released.
