Netflix Is Losing Its Best Comedy Series
Schitt's Creek will be leaving Netflix October 2nd.
Get ready to have your hearts broken. It’s been revealed that Netflix will be officially dropping Schitt’s Creek from its available options on October 2. That’s right, everyone’s favorite outlandish and eccentric family will be leaving the streaming platform in a matter of weeks.
Life’s been tough for lovers of Netflix comedies like Schitt’s Creek in recent years. After losing favorites like The Office and Parks and Recreation to NBC’s streaming service Peacock, we’ve counted on shows like Community, The Good Place, New Girl, and of course Schitt’s Creek to get us through it all. But, if you were worried that the series would be wiped from streaming all together, we’ve got some good news for you.
However, there’s a catch. Although Netflix will be losing Schitt’s Creek, Hulu will be gaining the award winning Dan and Eugene Levy created series. That’s right, just like the Kardashian family pulled a fast one over on E! when they ended their long-running series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, only to emerge stronger than ever via Hulu under the new title The Kardashians, the Canadian series will do the same. Unlike The Kardashians though, Schitt’s Creek won’t be getting a reboot, so don’t get too excited – just rest easy knowing that with a Hulu subscription, you can continue to relive all the wacky hijinks played out by the Rose family.
Prior to landing on Netflix, Schitt’s Creek made its United States debut via Pop TV. The series centers around the beyond wealthy Rose family as they suffer a fall from grace. When their money making business, Rose Video, goes bankrupt after the business manager embezzles their earnings, the family loses their wealth and must move to the titular town that they previously purchased. Finding themselves without enough funds to buy a new home, the family’s father Johnny (Eugene Levy), mother Moira (Catherine O’Hara), and their adult children David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy) are forced to dig themselves out of their pit of self despair and debt.
The news surrounding Netflix’s loss of Schitt’s Creek comes alongside several other titles taking their leave from the platform. The streamer’s original thriller series, Hemlock Grove, is on its way out forever, along with the beloved classic, Saved by the Bell, which was only available for viewers to binge over the last year. Meanwhile, fans of David Fincher’s classic crime thriller Seven better hurry up and solve the mystery of what’s in the box before it departs from the platform, and check out the anthology series, Fargo, while they’re at it before it takes a final bow in October.
But, we’re also here to tell you that all hope is not lost! Although Netflix is bidding adieu to Schitt’s Creek, Saved by the Bell, Seven, and a slew of other highly talked about titles, there are some very welcomed additions coming to the streamer in October. From the Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne dramatized true-crime project The Good Nurse to the Rush Hour franchise and Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 3, there’s sure to be something you love hitting the streamer that will help you cope with the loss of one of the best sitcoms in recent years.
