As part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all Marvel characters are fair game for appearances on the new Disney+ series, WandaVision. Did you know that Nathan Fillion is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? This is a little known fact, and a debatable one at that, but a fun one. It depends on who you talk to. Potentially, we could say that Fillion was cast as Wonder Man. And potentially, we could see him appearing in an upcoming episode of WandaVision. Let’s dive into how this all comes together and what Paul Bettany said that makes fans hopeful.

Paul Bettany plays Vision on WandaVision, that wacky new show on Disney+. Recently, the actor appeared on the Lights Camera Barstool podcast to talk about future episodes. He did this with the skill of a seasoned Marvel actor. Meaning, he was great at being vague while still getting fans excited to watch things. One of the things he mentioned was that he had the opportunity to work with someone great. He didn’t say this was Nathan Fillion, but there is fan hope. He said, “I work with this actor that I’ve always wanted to work with and we have fireworks together, the scenes are great and I think people are going to be really excited. I’ve always wanted to work with this guy and the scenes are pretty intense.”

Why are fans thinking this could be Nathan Fillion? Fans know him as that actor from Castle, Dr. Horrible, and of course, Firefly. Why WandaVision? Because, potentially, we could say he was cast as Wonder Man, also known as Simon Williams. Wonder Man is a hero from the Marvel comics we haven’t actually seen in a movie yet. It’s been hinted in WandaVision that Wonder Man may be showing up soon.

What do we mean when we say Nathan Fillion was “potentially” cast as Wonder Man? So, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is big enough to get anyone confused. It includes movies like Guardians of the Galaxy. In the second movie, there were a bunch of cameos during the credits. It was fantastic. There were so many, you’d think it would be impossible that there had been any cut, but there was one notable concept that didn’t make it.

James Gunn, the writer and director for the Guardians movies, is best friends with Nathan Fillion. He has a history of casting his friends in his movies. Nathan Fillion was in the first Guardians movie, though you may have missed it. He’s also in the upcoming The Suicide Squad. And while he didn’t make it into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, the production team had created some movie posters where Nathan Fillion was meant to appear in a cameo as Simon Williams/Wonder Man. Naturally, fans were extremely excited about this development and hit both Nathan Fillion and James Gunn with questions about it on social media. When asked directly, James Gunn commented that fans could go ahead and consider it canon: Nathan Fillion is Wonder Man.

Is that good enough to say that if Wonder Man ever appears in a Marvel show or movie Nathan Fillion will be cast? If you want to get super strict about it, maybe not. But is it fun to hope? Absolutely.
