Natalie Portman may not stand at six feet, but she certainly had to appear so on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder, which she revealed in an interview.

Natalie Portman is currently fueling her MCU comeback, and we can’t wait to see her appear as Jane Foster aka The Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, that character is called “mighty” for a reason. Based on the six-foot height of the character, that meant that Portman had to do some serious growing. How much? Well, just about 10 inches so that she could seem grandiose walking alongside Thor Odinson. The actress commented on how the crew was able to make her look a bit more towering in stature. According to Portman, “We’d rehearse the scene, they’d see the path, and then they’d build a path that was like one foot off the ground or whatever, and I would just walk on that.”

Building a platform for Natalie Portman to walk on is a clever idea to make it seems as though she is the same height as Hemsworth. Mjolnir is also meant to “transform” its wielder, so it makes sense that production had to figure out a way for Portman to see much larger than she was. Also, she did look as though she put on some muscle weight in the trailers. Whether that was done through CGI or not, she looks buff. But again, that is the supposed Viking nature of the character wielding the mighty hammer.

Natalie Portman also commented on the comparisons of Black Swan to Thor: Love and Thunder. She was meant to look small in Black Swan, the smallest she had ever been. That is true considering ballerinas are meant to weigh next to nothing so they can balance on their tippy-toes for performances. Now she was tasked with becoming bigger than she had ever been while portraying The Mighty Thor, which also makes sense. Although the films are separated by many years, it is still quite drastic that she had to become a six-foot-tall person now compared to her tiny figure in Black Swan.

Taika Waititi is a masterful director, and whatever he has done to ensure that we see a comic accurate The Mighty Thor, then it was likely well worth it. Natalie Portman may not be six feet tall, but they were certainly going to try and make her appear as though she is for the film. We are more than excited to see how she looks on the big screen. Also, how she goes about acquiring Mjolnir in the film and becomes worthy. Those answers will be answered and more revealed when Thor: Love and Thunder premieres next month.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to debut on July 8th. The film stars Chris Hemsworth in his glorious return as Thor Odinson. He is joined by Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Taika Waititi, and so much more. This film is bringing back some of the familiar faces in the Guardians of the Galaxy, and those who have already appeared in Thor entries, like Tessa Thompson and Taika Waititi. Also, we finally get to see Russell Crowe and Christian Bale make their MCU debuts. We can’t wait to see what happens and see this six-foot-tall version of Natalie Portman.
