Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster is going to be Mjolnir’s new wielder, and honestly, the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had better watch their backs. Now, we have heard some pretty credible rumors that Jane Foster is going to beat the snot out of a certain Avenger, and it is exactly the one you are probably thinking it is.

Gossip writer Daniel Richtman brings word that Natalie Portman will beat up Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Odinson in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. However, please keep in mind that this is just a rumor at this point and should be taken with a grain of salt. It is worth exploring, though, especially because a few key Avengers died in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and there are only a few who could even stand a chance against Mjolnir. That narrows it down somewhat, and thematically, Portman knocking the crap out of Chris Hemsworth is the only thing that makes sense. Richtman has been spot-on with his scoops before, so it is not out of the realm of possibility that he is right about this one, too.

If you have seen set photos of Natalie Portman’s shredded new look, you know that her status as the new Thor is a done deal. She definitely seems to be going the way of her comic book counterpart, which, as those of you who have read the comics will know, is both a good and a bad thing. Hopefully, they don’t kill her off like writer Jason Aaron did–and like the comics may be planning on doing again.

Jane Foster became Thor in Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman’s Thor run back in 2014, eventually going on to die in battle against an ancient threat. As superheroes sometimes do. Of course, comic book deaths are rarely permanent and often mean little, so she is back and on the chopping block yet again. Give her a break, Marvel.

Again, please take this as rumor. It would be great if this ended up being true, but again, until we know more, it is best to just wait and see what Marvel confirms and what we have to wait longer to see. But feel free to speculate away! It will be incredible to see Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster come into her own as a warrior. She has already proven herself as a brilliant scientist, and you can bet that she will apply that same brilliance to the battlefield. I can’t wait, honestly.

If you are itching to see Jane Foster in action as the almighty Thor, you do not have too much longer to wait. You can catch Natalie Portman in the highly anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder when it finally hits theaters on May 6, 2022. It has been delayed multiple times, but it looks like that May date is locked in. Until then, you can catch up on her Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances in the first two Thor films. Neither of them are great movies but Portman does a great job elevating both.
