Mehcad Brooks who portrays Jax in the Mortal Kombat movie has revealed that he is set to reprise his role in Mortal Kombat 2. The world was pleasantly surprised by Mortal Kombat, which was released during the pandemic in 2021 and ended up having massive success on HBO Max. Despite the movie only making $84.4 million against a budget of $55 million, it was a massive hit on the streaming platform, as it dropped on streaming at the same time it had been in theaters.

According to Brooks, “I’ve heard some pretty exciting updates.” He added, “Nothing I can get into in great detail at this very moment, but expect to see Jax back, new and improved, and with these motherf—ers working.” We would assume that the “mfers” in his statement refer to the super-powered arms that he used in the original movie, which will be brought back for Mortal Kombat 2.

Mortal Kombat may not have been a hit with the critics, as the movie currently holds a 55% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience score of 86% tells a much different story, as those numbers led to Mortal Kombat being the highest-streamed movie on HBO Max back in 2021. Mortal Kombat 2 was greenlit back in January, leaving fans ecstatic about what characters could be returning, and what new fighters we are going to see in the sequel.

Jax returning to the Mortal Kombat 2 is certainly exciting, especially considering he is always partnered up with Sonya Blade. However, this return could also signify that another character should be on the way to the sequel, and that is Johnny Cage, as he was usually in the mix with Sonya and Jax. Cage was often the love interest of Blade in the games, and the pair even had a daughter named Cassie, who became a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11.

Kano, Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Mileena, Kabal, Nitara, Goro, and Reiko all died quite viciously in the first Mortal Kombat movie, though that does not mean they will be gone forever. One of the best aspects of the video game that can be adapted into Mortal Kombat 2 is that characters can die and be brought back as easily as starting your game over. We certainly want to see Kabal return, as he was one of the best characters from the first movie.

Jeremy Slater is currently writing Mortal Kombat 2, and he famously worked on the hit MCU series, Moon Knight. Directing the sequel movie is returning director Simon McQuoid. We are not sure what McQuoid has in store for the sequel, but there are a ton of charters that have not yet been shown. We are hoping for Baraka, Cyrax, and Sekor to appear in the sequel.

Mortal Kombat 2 is still in the early stages of development, but we do know that Jax is now confirmed to be a returning character. He is joined by Sonya Blade and Hanzo Hasashi aka Scorpion as the only returning characters that have been announced so far. It could take time for more casting announcements to roll out, but we would assume many of the characters from the first movie will be making their way back for the sequel.
