The Witcher series exploded onto Netflix, garnering a massive audience across its first season. The second season just premiered on Friday, December 17th. Now audiences can be captivated by the trailer for the prequel series that is set some 1200 years before the events of The Witcher. Netflix has released the first trailer of The Witcher: Blood Origin. This new prequel and spin-off series stars Michelle Yeoh as a deadly elf with sword skills that might rival Geralt of Rivia’s. If the trailer is any indication of what’s in store for viewers, it will be quite a wild ride.

See Michelle Yeoh join The Witcher universe in the trailer below.

The trailer shows Michelle Yeoh and several other elves defending themselves from would-be attackers. It would appear the formula is that of Lord of the Rings or Dungeons & Dragons, as they all seem to have their own styles of fighting, especially the heftier elf that is wielding a giant battle-ax. Gimli and Legolas combo, anyone? The other elf in this trio seems to be an archer, lending to the idea that all will be working together for some fantastic combinations while fighting. From the looks of the whole trailer, it seems the elves are at odd ends with humankind, and maybe some monsters, though none have been explicitly shown yet.

The Witcher: Blood Origin was spawned from nine novels, three video games, and now two seasons of Geralt’s adventure. This new series is set to prequel all that and showcase the “Conjunction of the Spheres”. This is a pivotal piece of backstory that sparked off events leading to the current series starring Henry Cavill. The event “Conjunction of the Spheres” will show how the worlds of elves, monsters, and men became one. According to Netflix, this is going to be a major part of what Michelle Yeoh’s new series shows happening. Scian, played by Michelle Yeoh, might be the first Witcher created, hence the “origins” in the series’ title. The actress is well suited for the role as shown in the trailer. She is no stranger to martial arts and sword skills, as she played Yu Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The popularity of The Witcher is similar to that of Game of Thrones, which has now begun production on its own spin-off series. Now the world will get to see even more of this rich backstory that has spanned through nine novels. Michelle Yeoh (Scian) is joined by castmates Laurence O’Fuarain (Fjall) and Sophia Brown (Eile). All three are from different races or tribes of elves that all have their part to play in the grander scheme of things.

The Witcher: Blood Origin, starring Michelle Yeoh, is set to air exclusively on Netflix in 2022. The limited series will be six episodes long and is a partnership effort from creators of The Witcher and creators of the anime film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. The anime side story was also released on Netflix in August of 2021.
