Michael Dorn made his grand Star Trek return as Worf in Season 3 of Picard, and the character is just as engaging and sometimes unintentionally hilarious as ever. In the third episode of the season, Raffi asks Worf if what he’s wearing is something he’d wear to a “Tuesday beheading,” to which Worf replied, “Beheadings are on Wednesday.” Dorn himself revealed in a recent interview with TrekMovie.com that Worf wasn’t joking.

Michael Dorn talked about his approach to playing Worf on Picard, saying, “I’ve always kept him straight,” adding, “Always very much—if they give me a line, I say the line, as serious as I can.” So when the interviewer confirmed if beheadings happened on Wednesdays, Dorn replied, “Oh, yeah. He’s not joking.”

Michael Dorn isn’t the only crew member from the USS Enterprise who reunited with Patrick Stewart’s Picard in the third season. Other Next Generation stars who appear this season include Jonathan Frakes as William Riker, Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher, LeVar Burton as Geordi La Forge, Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi, and Brent Spiner as Lore. The third season is also set to be the series’ final season, which should provide a satisfying ending for many members of the Next Generation crew.

Along with Michael Dorn and the rest of the former cast members, the main cast of Picard also includes Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Ed Speleers. The final season sees the former USS Enterprise crew facing a dangerous enemy who is hunting Picard’s son. So far, three episodes of the season have aired with the fourth released on March 9.

In the interview with Michael Dorn, he revealed that he would be open to reprising the role of Worf after Picard is over. It would be great to see Dorn continue bringing the character back to the growing list of Trek shows on Paramount+. Dorn even said he’d be open to playing Worf in a Worf-focused spin-off or he’d be fine being a character in an ensemble cast, ala Next Generation.

In either case, fans would definitely like to see more of Michael Dorn after Picard. While there seem to be no definitive plans for his character, there should be plenty of opportunities for more Worf. Although Picard and Discovery are both ending, there are more shows in Paramount’s Star Trek pipeline.

Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Picard are the current ongoing series in the Trek universe. Paramount has announced in the past that there wouldn’t be new series until one of these five series ended, so we’re getting close to that point with both Discovery and Picard airing their final seasons. There are only two reported series in the works, but there’s no reason another new series couldn’t add Michael Dorn in after his stint on Picard.

The two new shows in the works include a Michelle Yeoh-led series revolving around Starfleet’s secretive Section 31 division with Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt serving as co-showrunners. There is also reportedly a series about Starfleet Academy in the works which will be geared toward a younger audience. In the meantime, you can catch Michael Dorn as Worf in Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard, which is airing new episodes weekly.
