Ever since Chadwick Boseman’s sadly passed away in 2020, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have been debating Marvel’s next step in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. As it has been announced that they won’t be recasting the character of Black Panther in honor of Boseman, many had been speculating the return of Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan in the first Black Panther film. While these rumors are yet to be backed by solid evidence, a recent report has shared some brand new, exciting information about Michael B. Jordan’s return in an upcoming Marvel series

So far, only a first look trailer of What If…? has been released. Set in an alternate universe, the only differences we got to see were Peggy Carter getting the serum instead and becoming Captain Britain, T’Challa as Star-Lord instead of Black Panther, and an evil Doctor Strange. Thus even though the voice cast of the series had been released way back in 2019, we had no new information about how different will Michael B. Jordan as Kilmonger will be in the series. But now, we do.

In an exclusive report, The Illuminerdi has disclosed that Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Stevens/Killmonger won’t be a supporting character in one of the episodes of the series and will instead play a key role. While his debut in 2018’s Black Panther saw him gunning for the throne of Wakanda, his alternate version in What If…? will be busy pulling off something at a global scale courtesy of his new friendship with Tony Stark. Now, this is one unexpected pairing, isn’t it? In the original timeline, while Tony went on to become a superhero, Killmonger ended up dying in his failed attempt to take over Wakanda from T’Challa.

It is, more or less, confirmed that Tony Stark will be making a trip to Sakaar, most probably experiencing the same chain of events that took place on the planet in Thor: Ragnarok, instead of Thor. Thus, this time, Tony will be the one facing off against a majorly pissed Hulk in the Grandmaster’s palace. As any more details about the series aren’t available, it can’t be said with certainty whether Michael B. Jordan is set to appear in this particular episode as well. It is left to be seen whether Killmonger will get to play the part of a hero or this time, he is destined to be a villain, through and through, unlike his previously grey-shaded character.

Apart from Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger, the voice cast of What If…? also includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Josh Brolin as Thanos, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter/Captain Britain, Frank Grillo as Bruck Rumlow, Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Taika Waititi as Korg, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Taika Waititi as Korg, Michael Rooker as Yondu, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.

The first season of What If…?, consisting of 10 episodes, is scheduled to premiere in August 2021 on Disney+ while a second season is already in development.
