Metroid Samus

Make no mistake about it, Captain Marvel has set herself a goal and that goal is Samus Aran. It’s true. Actress Brie Larson has gone on record stating her desire to portray the Metroid sci-fi heroine in a movie when she recently tweeted out, “Make. It. Happen.”

I would love that so much. So I was Samus for Halloween two years ago. It was literally a $20 costume I bought off of Amazon, it was like nothing. I was so excited about it, and I posted a picture of it on Instagram of me and the costume and it turned into this thing of people being like, ‘Woah!” She was always my character that I played in Super Smash Bros., and I just loved her. So that whole thing started and I’ve definitely not put a squash to that story and I definitely want to make that movie, definitely want to participate in that. So Nintendo, once again, I would love to do it.

It didn’t take long for fans to get even more excited about the possibility of Brie Larson and Metroid. One fan, the twitter-popular Bosslogic, even put together some art and posted it to Twitter, prompting many reactions. Here’s what Brie could look like as Samus in a Metroid movie…

The pic itself got so much attention that even Larson herself rolled up on it and had this to say: “Make it happen”

And here’s another fan’s take on putting Brie Larson in Samus’s suit for a Metroid movie…

So, we know what Twitterdom has to say about Brie Larson becoming Samus Aran for a Metroid movie, we know what the actress herself has to say. It seems like a good fit but we’ve been down this road before with video games turned into movies. It rarely works out, no matter who Hollywood casts in the lead. Even The Rock has failed to make video game movies work. And Brie Larson, you’re know Dwayne Johnson.

LEAVE IT UP TO FANS

Still, Brie Larson is adamant that she wants to give a Metroid movie a shot. Apparently she’s wanted to play Samus for years.

Larson was recently interviewed on an episode of Animal Talking on Twitch TV and the subject was brought up about her possibly playing Samus Aran, as fans have been clamoring for. Here’s what she had to say about starring in a Metroid movie…

“I would love that so much. So, I was Samus for Halloween two years ago… It was literally a $20 costume I bought off of Amazon, it was like nothing. I was so excited about it, and so I posted a picture of it on Instagram of me and the costume and it turned into this thing of people being like ‘Woah!’ She was always my character that I played as in Super Smash Bros. and I just loved her. WHAT IS METROID?

Metroid movie

For those of you not in the know, Metroid is a very popular Nintendo game first introduced to North America way back in 1987. It follows Samus as she is sent to the planet Zebes, which is an open-ended world connected by elevators and doors. Her goal is to hunt down Space Pirates who, after attacking the Space Federation, have stolen Metroid creatures. These creatures can attach themselves to any organism and drain the life force from them. The Space Pirates want to replicate these creatures, turning them into biological weapons. Samus arrives on the planet as a bounty hunter aiming to stop the Space Pirates.

When Samus arrives on the planet, she has minimal abilities. She has a weak power beam to help fight plus the ability to jump. As the game continues and the player explores the planet, they gain power-ups to make Samus more powerful as the enemies get stronger and stronger. Her powers also allow Samus to gain access to areas previously inaccessible. Her final goal is to reach and defeat Mother Brain.

Samus reveal

The twist in this game is that all along, players have no idea that Samus is female. Throughout the game, Samus is inside her power armor and it is only upon completion of the game that Samus strips down and out of said armor that her gender is revealed. Presumably for any potential Metroid movie, we’ll know she’s a woman right from the start.
