The popular crime drama Mayans M.C. will end after season five. The news was revealed by FX Networks Chairman John Landgraf at the Television Critics Association press tour. Created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, the Sons of Anarchy spin-off series premiered in September 2018. The story takes place two and a half years after the events of the flagship series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fifth and final season of Mayans M.C. will find EZ with his American Dream in his grasp. But along with his brother Angel and the rest of the Santo Padre M.C., he will face retaliation from other chapters after a failed attempt to align under one King. Meanwhile, the brothers grow distant from their father following a shocking betrayal.

Set in the fictional California town of Santo Padre, the story focuses on the struggles of Ezekiel Reyes, a prospect in the charter of the Mayans M.C. on the Mexico/California border. After his family’s American dream was destroyed by cartel violence, EZ’s need for vengeance drives him toward a dangerous life he can never escape.

The popular series also boasts several powerful female characters. The season four finale of Mayans M.C. saw the group mourn the loss of their brother Coco. Episode 10 was also huge for Sons of Anarchy fans, as Tig returned and reunited with Marcus Alvarez.

Isaac Packer’s reaper tattoo was also explained. He is the younger brother of Les Packer, who had been undergoing cancer treatment.

Although Mayans M.C. is coming to an end, FX has been excited about the new season for a long time. Speaking about the show’s fifth outing at 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, FX Entertainment President of Original Programming Nick Grad said the next installment will be explosive. “The Mayans have battled for respect, territory, and power through four intense seasons,” he said via Collider.

“The explosive fifth season will test their very survival under EZ’s newly claimed leadership,” he added. Grad also said that Elgin James and the Mayans M.C. creative team have kept fans coming back for years. Now, along with the brilliant cast, crew, and partners at 20th Television, the team is ready to take that ride for one more season.

Elgin James, who was also at San Diego Comic-Con, shared his excitement about the new season. “I can’t wait to see what we’re able to create together moving forward,” he told the crowd. He added that every member of the Mayans M.C. family put their blood and sweat into creating something special on the set and on screen.

While Mayans M.C.  did not last as long as Sons of Anarchy, which spanned seven seasons, the show was still a hit with fans. The crime series also features a stellar cast that included J.D. Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Raoul Max Trujillo, and Emilio Rivera. Sarah Bolger, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, and Vincent Vargas also star.

The highly anticipated fifth season of Mayans M.C. is expected to air on FX later this year.
