Jameela Jamil, one of the stars of Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, has again taken to social media to discuss her health. Jamil was diagnosed as a child with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and used a video posted to TikTok and Instagram to spread awareness about the disorder and urged people who are experiencing its symptoms to seek medical attention. Though she plays a villain for Marvel, Jameela Jamil is playing the hero in her fight against EDS; the actress has faced intense online scrutiny for discussing her ailments in the past, to the point that Jamil was suicidal for a time.

Jamil’s video explains the basics of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which is a disorder that primarily affects the connective tissue in the body. This often manifests with overly flexible joints, hyper-elastic skin, easy bruising, and difficulty healing. While Marvel characters often look invincible, Jameela Jamil displayed her symptoms in her video, stretching her cheeks far from her face and showing the two-way bend in her elbow.

“I want to talk about it,” Jamil said, “in spite of the fact that people make fun of me over my health, because it’s a really serious condition, and it impacts every single part of your body, and it even affects your mind.” She went on to detail the dangers of going through life with EDS and not knowing about it. In addition to complications with healing on a day-to-day basis, explained the Marvel star, EDS can complicate pregnancy and childbirth, and Jameela Jamil is doing her best to prevent tragic outcomes for those with the disorder.

The Good Place actress continued the list of symptoms, including clumsiness, joint swelling and dislocation, migraines, and difficulties at the dentist. Jamil advised that people listen when children complain about symptoms such as these because, even though they look perfectly healthy, something serious could be going on inside. The Marvel villain got personal, disclosing that she always carries an EpiPen since EDS can cause the development of random allergies to favorite foods, which Jameela Jamil discussed with a sense of personal experience.

Jamil briefly mentioned Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS), which is associated with EDS and can cause dizziness and fainting upon standing or sitting. She urged people experiencing symptoms to go to the doctor, reiterating the danger of undiagnosed EDS and the lack of understanding that often surrounds the disorder. It seems that between her stints on projects for Marvel and DC (she voiced Wonder Woman in DC League of Super-Pets), Jameela Jamil is carving out time as a health advocate, as well.

There has been no official word on whether or not Marvel will bring Jameela Jamil back as the gaudy villain Titania, but the star is ready to return. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has had mixed reactions, but when it comes to her show and her health, Jamil is ready to confront the haters. Though she admitted that criticism and bullying about her health depressed her to the point of being suicidal, Jamil is flying in the face of her bullies to spread awareness, validate people’s experiences, and save lives.

Before any return to Marvel, Jameela Jamil will be seen (or at least heard) in the upcoming film The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight and the Peacock original series Poker Face starring Natasha Lyonne.
