Sony just unveiled the first, albeit brief, footage from their upcoming cinematic adaptation of the video game series Uncharted, in its new promotional video. And though the Uncharted footage is incredibly short and nothing but a fragment of Sony’s promotional content, it provides us with a glimpse of Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg’s performance in the upcoming motion picture.

Sony’s new promotional video focuses on its employees and their drive towards customer satisfaction and gives us the tiniest teasers for the upcoming Uncharted movie. You can catch glimpses of Tom Holland’s Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg’s Victor “Sully” Sullivan at some black-tie event, at the 1:33 mark in the promotional video in the video below.

There’s no dialogue in the footage, but the sense of disappointment between the two fictional characters is presented quite well, eliminating any need for dialogue in the first place. Unfortunately, apart from knowledgeable looks between the two characters, the two-seconds footage cut provides very little detail, but just enough excitement for the franchise’s diehard fandom.

The upcoming adaptation of the immensely popular action-adventure video game title, Uncharted, is set before the first game’s events and introduces Tom Holland as the movie’s protagonist Nathan “Nate” Drake, a young treasure hunter and an alleged descendant of famed explorer Sir Francis Drake. Mark Wahlberg’s character, Victor “Sully” Sullivan, is also a fellow treasure hunter and Nathan’s mentor, and a father figure. Judging by the glimpses we just caught in Sony’s promotional video, the post-production is going quite well, and we can expect to see the two actors in an announcement trailer soon.

This is also fantastic progress, especially for a movie that was announced over a decade ago and spent the better part of that decade in the development limbo. The adaptation faced several setbacks since its announcement, including minor corrections to the script and the cast. So many setbacks, in fact, that the actor initially attached to the role of Nathan Drake now plays Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Yes, that’s right, Mark Wahlberg was originally cast to play Nathan Drake, but thanks to the unrelenting passage of time, that role was passed down to Tom Holland.

Uncharted was initially scheduled to release in June 2016 but got pushed to June 2017, then December 2020, but seeing how principal photography started in March 2020, the movie was delayed to March 2021. Unfortunately, the production was shut down just a few days after it started, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officially resuming in July 2020, but coming to a short halt after one of the actors tested positive for COVID-19 in August 2020. Luckily, the shooting ended successfully on October 29, 2020, setting the movie to release in October 2021.

However, that date didn’t hold too long, and Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg’s Uncharted got pushed forward to July 2021 before settling on a new release date of February 11, 2022. The movie was later pushed back for another week, with the Uncharted adaptation now scheduled for a theatrical release on February 18, 2022, in the U.S., unless it gets pushed back yet again. With everything said, it’s exciting seeing Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland in their upcoming release, even for just two seconds.
