Mike Flanagan, who has proven his status as a maestro in telling bone-chilling horror stories, has started working on his upcoming Netflix series, The Fall of The House of Usher. And he has kicked off the project by bringing a rather renowned Jedi from a galaxy far, far away on board. You guessed right, Mark Hamill has joined the production.

Flanagan, along with executive producer Trevor Macy, announced on his Twitter account the first wave of casting news for the upcoming series, which includes Mark Hamill. He revealed that they are just a few weeks away from beginning the principal photography for their eight-episode miniseries, The Fall of the House of Usher, in Vancouver, Canada. Flanagan also highlighted that the series will be a “modern remix of some of the most iconic works of Edgar Allan Poe.” So, in order to tell this “epic tale of greed, horror, and tragedy,” they have brought together “the largest ensemble cast,” in the history of Intrepid Pictures, the production company run by Flanagan and Macy.

In his post, Flanagan revealed that Mark Hamill is a “new addition” to the “dark worlds of Intrepid and of Edgar Allan Poe.” While he didn’t share any concrete details about what role the Star Wars actor will be playing, he cryptically added that he will be portraying a character “surprisingly at home in the shadows.” It remains to be seen whether he will be playing the good or the bad guy, but knowing Hamill and his versatile acting skills, he will be perfect for whatever role Flanagan has chosen for him in the upcoming series.

Apart from Mark Hamill, The Fall of the House of Usher’s cast also includes the renowned actor Frank Langella, who was last seen in the critically acclaimed The Trial of the Chicago 7. He will be playing Roderick Usher, “the towering patriarch of the Usher Dynasty.” The first casting announcement also includes Mary McDonnell, best known for playing President Laura Roslin in the series, Battlestar Galactica. She will be seen as Madeline Usher, Roderick’s sister and “the hidden hand of the Usher Dynasty.”

Carl Lumbly has also been added to the cast of The Fall of the House of Usher as investigator C. Auguste Dupin. This will be Lumbly’s second collaboration with Flanagan after working with the filmmaker on the 2019 horror film, Doctor Sleep. Carla Gugino, who has also worked with Flanagan in the past (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor) has been brought on board for the series as well. But like Mark Hamill, her character is also being kept a secret, though she will be “front and center” in the series.

Apart from joining the talented cast of The Fall of the House of Usher, Mark Hamill was recently seen in the Shudder horror anthology series, Creepshow. He also voiced the villainous character Skeletor in Netflix’s Masters of the Universe Revelation and continues to be the voice of the superhero suit tailor, Art Rosenbaum, in Amazon Prime’s animated series, Invincible. His most prominent appearance has been in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale, which saw him reprising the role of the iconic Jedi knight, Luke Skywalker. But just like the mystery surrounding his role in The Fall of the House of Usher, his future in the Star Wars series is being kept under tight wraps as well.
