Major Marvel Stars Coming To DC Confirmed
While the MCU is riding high right now thanks to the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, many of us are waiting for Marvel’s biggest rival to dazzle us. Ever since James Gunn began working on his new DCU, fans have been speculating about what (or who) the veteran director will be bringing to the table. And in a recent discussion on Threads, the former Marvel director dropped a bombshell by seemingly confirming that some of his Guardians of the Galaxy stars would be part of his upcoming DC Universe.
James Gunn Has Fun On Social Media
Gunn is no stranger to social media, and while his posting has gotten him in trouble in the past, the director now mostly uses apps like Threads as a way of engaging with fans and generally building hype for his upcoming projects. In this case, the news about his old Marvel stars joining his DC movies came when a Threads user asked “If you had the chance to cast any of the GOTG stars in the DC Universe, who would you cast them as?” Without missing a beat, Gunn replied, “Well that would be a spoiler wouldn’t it?”
One Familiar Face Already
But which of his former Marvel stars is headed to the DC Universe? Right now, only one is confirmed, and you won’t be surprised by who it is: Sean Gunn, who played Kraglin Obfonteri in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, will be playing Maxwell Lord in the DCU. Depending on how prominent Lord is as a villain in this new cinematic universe, this could be a big upgrade compared to playing a funny flunky in the MCU.
Friendly Visits
None of Gunn’s other Marvel stars have confirmed they are coming to the DC Universe, although we know of two of them that are likeliest to appear. The first is Chris Patt, who played Star-Lord in the MCU and was spotted in June visiting the set of Gunn’s Superman movie. It’s possible (likely, even) that he was just dropping by to say “hi” to Gunn, but when the star was asked if he’d be willing to join the DCU, he instantly responded with “Yes, of course.”
More Guardians Want To Jump
Pratt isn’t the only one of Gunn’s former Marvel heroes who sounds ready to jump into DC’s new cinematic universe. Mantis actor Pom Klementieff mentioned in June that she was in talks with Gunn for the simple reason that “I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that.” She went on to add, “Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.”
The Same Film Together?
Marvel star Klementieff deliberately avoided naming any specific characters or name-checking the DC Universe, but since she was talking about specifically working with Gunn (who is all-in on the DCU right now), it stands to reason that they were discussing her suiting up again as either hero or villain.
It’s even possible that she, Pratt, and Sean Gunn could all end up in the same film together. After all, James Gunn strikes us as the kind of guy with a weird enough sense of humor to turn an entire film into one big reunion for his favorite actors.
DC Is In Good Hands
To hear Chris Pratt discuss it, his Marvel future is quite uncertain, so jumping ship to DC might be the right movie for his superhero career. Similarly, Klementieff could pivot to this new cinematic universe and be part of a steady stream of new projects. All of this hinges on Gunn making the DCU into a hit, but if the quality of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker are any indication, this franchise is in great hands.
