With the end of the month quickly approaching, all our favorite streamers have a new list of content both coming and going from their platforms. For fans of Mads Mikkelsen who are looking for a bit of a thrill in the upcoming month, you can toss on a parka and live dangerously and vicariously through the movie star whose survival drama, Arctic will be arriving on Netflix beginning on February 1. Holding steady with a 90 percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Arctic is one of the best heart-pumping, adrenaline-filled features out there that allows you to bring the chill of the winter into your home while you sit cozied up by the fire with a big bowl of popcorn and hot cup of cocoa.

Mads Mikkelsen stars in Arctic as a man who has just survived a deadly airplane crash that dropped him in – you guessed it – the Arctic. Freezing his bum off, the man must decide whether it’s a better choice to set up camp and hope that rescue teams come to look for him and the other two people involved or to make his way through the deep snow, ice, and unforeseen dangers lurking in the distance. It’s an action movie, so we’ll let you guess which choice he goes with.

Directed by Joe Penna, Mads Mikkelsen stars in Arctic alongside only two other actors, Maria Thelma Smáradóttir and Tintrinai Thikhasuk. The feature was co-produced between the United States and Iceland and opened in 2019 following a 2018 premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. After landing in theaters, the survival feature drew mostly positive reviews for its storyline, Mikkelsen’s acting, and the movie’s larger-than-life cinematography which was overseen by Tómas Örn Tómasson.

With a decades-spanning career in Hollywood, specifically known for his roles in some pulse-pounding action-packed productions including Riders of Justice and Clash of the Titans, Mads Mikkelsen revealed that shooting Arctic was by far the toughest work he’s done in his career. Surprisingly, the survival thriller had a very short production time with the cast and crew only needing to be in the freezing weather for 19 days. It’s our guess that the below-zero temperatures really lit a fire under them to keep things moving along.

As for what’s next for the Denmark native, Mads Mikkelsen will soon appear in the much-talked-about and highly-anticipated Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny where he’ll play ex-Nazi Jürgen Voller, a man planning to use the Apollo moon to help himself. The actor is also slated to star in Nikolaj Arcel’s period drama, King’s Land. The film will follow a working man who hopes to strike gold by accomplishing a near-impossible and deadly task commissioned by the King of Denmark.

As for Netflix’s upcoming February lineup, along with the Mads Mikkelsen-led Arctic, subscribers can plan to tune in for other major titles including La La Land, Call Me by Your Name, and Bad Boys as well as its sequel. Meanwhile, this month we’ll be bidding adieu to features including The Hateful Eight, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, and Troy.
